About to get a little sappy (okay, a lot)! Last Friday, we hosted the 1st ever Women@Dox ½ Day and it was a roaring success! This was once just an idea (a great one from Krystyn). Candidly, it was borne out of brainstorming ways to get more engagement at our virtual events. What if we created an entire ½ day of programming with speakers, breakouts, activities, swag? Similar to virtual offsites, a Doximity staple during COVID, it would be connection, learning, and fun all in one.
As a board, we loved it instantly. But we also had reservations. Can we pull this off? Can we find the right balance? Can we make it fun without feeling forced? Will anyone actually show up? But, we decided to push full steam ahead. It was truly a team effort, with suggestions coming from all sides. Before we knew it, the agenda was almost finalized and it looked REALLY cool! We polled Women@Dox to pick a date (without sharing any details about the event itself). Summer schedules are hard with travel, DTO, offsites, meetings. But, there are always a million reasons to NOT do something. We settled on July 26th and made the announcement.
Maybe I’m just speaking for myself here, but it felt like holding in a collective breath as we waited to see what the reaction would be. This was our first time ever doing something like this and it would only work if it resonated with our community. And it did. In a big way. The excitement was palpable, and not just from the 7 of us who had been planning for months. 😅 I let out a deep breath. With a little under a month left to go, we still had a lot of work to do.
Last Friday, I held my breath again as I clicked “Join Meeting” for the kickoff. The same reservations were still swirling around in my head. It was a summer Friday, after all! I was preparing myself to be in a Zoom room with just the board, and possibly a few coworkers who I had hounded mercilessly to join. But, the participants kept climbing, and soon we hit over 50 attendees. Deep breath out, big smile on. Let the fun begin! 💃
It is so important to me to work for a company that cares about building community, that puts its money where its mouth is when it comes to company culture, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. The fact that we got to invite almost 300 members of our community to join us for a ½ day of programming devoted to women’s wellness, professional development, and connection is a testament to that commitment from Doximity (& from Félix & Jessica, who spearhead the work).
I’m so proud of this event that we made happen, and I hope this communicates that it was a really powerful “we” that did this, including fellow board members (Abigail, Jen, Taylor, Jennifer, Samantha, Krystyn), committee members (Emmie, Kayla, Brynn, Rose), our awesome guests (Dr. Frances, Shannon, Sara, Chloe) and our community. It wasn't perfect, but to me, it was. If you have any ideas for the 2nd Annual Women@Dox ½ Day, my DMs are always open!
