Timeless wisdom by one of the pioneers of computing, R.A. Grace Hopper: “Value of information” It goes against the main stream IT industry, because the motivation of main players in the industry is to sell more {bandwidth, servers, cloud, big data, ai, …} infrastructure. Hopper in this video from 1982 uses the analogy of haphazard and prolific road building to get us to focus on the “value of information that flows within organizations and systems”. The main take away is prioritizing information and it goes against the modern m.o.’s in big tech: bigger, more distributed/horizontal, more compute, flexible schema, etc, etc. I’m not arguing against these “modern slogans”, nonetheless this video is a great and full of interesting ideas and lessons. https://lnkd.in/gxvufRqt
