I can't believe I'm finally saying this: I’m starting my journey at Google! Seventeen years ago, when I saw the first report about Google's offices, I promised myself that one day I would work there. Today, that dream has come true, and I couldn't be more excited for what's ahead. 🚀From Imposter to Confident Techie: My Journey at Google🚀 When I joined Google, I was excited yet intimidated, knowing it required immense hard work and adjustment. The environment is filled with top-notch technical minds and an advanced tech stack, making it a thrilling yet overwhelming experience.💁♀️ Initially, balancing family and work life while adapting to this new ecosystem was challenging. After a few months, I was hit hard by imposter syndrome. Doubts about my abilities and experience constantly nagged at me, and I spent an entire year questioning if I was truly good enough.😯 Surviving that period was tough, but the support of some wonderful colleagues made a significant difference. To combat imposter syndrome, I started reading about it and discussing it openly within my network, realizing I wasn't alone in this struggle. If you’re experiencing the same, I encourage you to talk to someone or keep a journal—it genuinely helps.🤗 I've always believed in creating my own path, and Google has provided me ample opportunities to learn and grow. ** 2 years of Googlyness!! ** Today marks my 2nd anniversary at Google! 2 years back it felt surreal starting my day 1 here with a whirlwind of emotions - happiness, excitement, and yes some nervousness. 🌟 Two weeks have passed since my fingers tapped away on my Google Chromebook, opening the gates to @Google.com. It feels like just yesterday that I began my journey, exploring the virtual cosmos with the power of Google at my fingertips. 🚀Joining Google at the age of 21 with no prior corporate experience, and working with amazing people, I left my mark by delivering results. Tl;dr Goodbye Google! Today marks my official last day at Google after 11+ years. I’ve been lucky to have a career filled with truly incredible mentors, peers and lifelong friends, and that was certainly true of the ones I made at Google. A big transition is always a moment that causes you to pause, reflecting on the experiences that stretched you. Here are some of mine: 🌊 The importance of staying 'uncomfortably excited', and maintaining constant growth 🤝 The quality of the performance is about the alignment of players and how well they come together for the game; something I experienced time and again during my years at Google 🪄 Change is constant and the ability to remain flexible is a must; embrace change!  With this in mind, my next step will be to bring my experience and insight to resolve seemingly obstinate problems for other businesses. More on that to come, but for now a big thank you to my fellow Googlers, partners & clients, both past and present, for being a large part of my life over the past decade+. It’s been an honour to grow alongside you. I am celebrating my 10th Googleversary! 🎉 Reflecting on this incredible journey, I've gathered 10 key learnings that have shaped my experience at Google: 1. The impostor syndrome is real - deal with it as you navigate new challenges, and you will feel it again even after years in the company. 2. Googleyness is a fundamental value - respect for people remains unchanged. 3. Reorganizations are opportunities for growth and development, do not panic! 4. Remote work and networking have been integral long before the pandemic. 5. Respect for users, colleagues, and opportunities is crucial. 6. Stretching responsibilities leads to exceptional projects and outcomes. 7. Perfection is subjective - strive to make your environment better. 8. Work-life balance is achievable and essential. 9. Fix things before it gets broken! (unlike if it is not broken, don't fix it) 10. Learn what makes you happy, what excites you at your work and chase it firmly! It's 9 am on September 1st 2014 I take a deep breath and step into the Google office in Wrocław for the first time. Bright colors, big open spaces, people everywhere. It was a whole new world compared to my small business experience in Italy. To say I was excited would be an understatement. I'd landed a dream job at one of the world's most innovative companies. But alongside the excitement, there was a nagging feeling of self doubt. I was surrounded by brilliant minds from top universities across the globe. I started to think "What did a small town Italian boy have to offer?" Imposter syndrome hit hard that first week. Every conversation felt like a test, I'd nod along, pretending to understand complex technical jargon, all the while feeling like a fraud. But slowly, something shifted. I realized Google wasn't just about being the smartest person in the room. It was about curiosity, collaboration, and a willingness to learn. I started taking on challenges, and contributing my own unique perspective. 10 years later, I'm grateful of the privilege to work on projects I never could have imagined. I've made lifelong friends, learned from the best managers & mentors in the industry, and witnessed the incredible impact technology can have on the world.
