The tool analyzes MRI brain scans and can accurately distinguish between male and female brains by spotting patterns in structure and complexity. Variations in white matter were found between genders, providing insight into how psychiatric and neurological disorders develop differently in men and women. The researchers caution that the AI tools cannot reveal which sex is more likely to have certain features. Hashtags: #chatGPT #GenderBrainAI #BrainStructureDetection

#NeuroScience | 𝗨𝗻𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗡𝗲𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 | In groundbreaking research at the University of Geneva, Assistant Professor Valerio Zerbi from the Department of Psychiatry and Department of Basic Neurosciences has revealed that our state of attention is controlled by a small number of neurons in the brain. This discovery was recently published in Nature Neuroscience and showcases the potential to advance our understanding of attention mechanisms. By employing cutting-edge techniques to monitor brain activity in real time, the team enabled individuals to regulate their attention using visual feedback. This research is pivotal as it offers deep insights into the neural underpinnings of attention, opening avenues for new strategies to enhance focus and attention. Such findings could have widespread implications, from treating attention disorders to optimizing cognitive performance in everyday life. 👉 Learn more >> https://lnkd.in/efTsYbDa 👉 Original publication >> https://lnkd.in/eNhMMSxT 🇨🇭 Follow #ScienceSwitzerland for the latest news and emerging trends on Swiss science, technology, education, and innovation >> www.swissinnovation.org Follow us >> Science-Switzerland #Science | #Education | #Research | #Innovation

Tenacity is an important aspects of resilience. Did you know that there are scientists studying what happens in our brains when we give up? Our brains are designed to seek rewards. This allows us to stay motivated even when things get tough. However, researchers found that "frustration" neurons become more active when getting a reward becomes increasingly difficult, eventually resulting in us giving up. #neuroscience #neuroleadership #perseverance #resilience #wellbeing #tenacity #PersonalResilienceIndicator #Mindmatters

🔴 🔍Unraveling Consciousness with Propofol: Insights from the University of Michigan 🌏 🔴 Exciting research from the #University #of #Michigan is pushing the boundaries of our #understanding of #consciousness by using propofol, a common anesthetic, to study the #brain's #thalamus and #cortex #interactions. Why Propofol? #Propofol is frequently used in medical settings to induce sedation or unconsciousness, but its effects on brain function have now become a key focus for scientists. Understanding what happens in the brain under #anesthesia can provide valuable insights into the nature of consciousness itself. Breaking New Ground Researchers at U-M, including #Zirui #Huang, Ph.D., George Mashour, M.D., Ph.D., and Anthony G. Hudetz, Ph.D., have utilized propofol to explore the #brain's #architecture during different states of consciousness. Their recent study, #published in #Nature #Communications, is the first to map the impact of propofol on brain cell connections in both the #thalamus and cortex in humans. 𝐊𝐞𝐲 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬.... 𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠: By employing functional magnetic resonance imaging (hashtag #FMRI), the team tracked changes in brain activity as participants transitioned into and out of hashtag #unconsciousness. 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠: Their findings reveal that propofol significantly alters hashtag #thalamic #activity, reducing the engagement of cells involved in broader, #transmodal processing and shifting towards more localized unimodal processing. 𝐂𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: The study highlights the critical role of #thalamic #matrix cells, which connect extensively with the #cortex, in maintaining consciousness. Surprisingly, the study found that #GABA, a neurotransmitter often associated with propofol’s effects, was less influential than previously thought. Implications This research offers a groundbreaking look at how anesthetics like propofol affect brain function and consciousness. It opens new avenues for understanding the neurobiological foundations of consciousness, with potential implications for neurology, psychiatry, and anesthesiology. For more on this transformative research, check out the full study in Nature Communications and join the conversation on how these findings could impact the #future #brain #science.
