Watch out Goolge!
🌐 OpenAI ChatGPT Search is here for prototype waitlist applicants! If you signed up to waitlist select the "🌐" purple symbol at the bottom. My first impression is its great but it's lacking the other results and assumes all results relate to one organization. So I think Google Search and Bing Search is ok. It does nicely summarize key points but it is focusing too much in a particular service we offer to law firms around Smokeball. So it has some work to do to be more equalised in its results. Paragraph style layout is ok but it could add some bullet points on key points from the website. They could provide contact us form for each business to help generate interest. It's not including any main image, just a thumbnail. It could add more key images from the site/company. But they can't compete with Google. Also how do we optimize our websites to make them OpenAi friendly so there is greater chance of being mentioned for the services? Perhaps Google is still king on that. But overall, I think it's a strong contender against Google's empire. So Google DeepMind and Google need to get cracking on search inside Gemini as well as the other way around: Search with AI. It will be interesting competition!
It's a fantastic addition to the ChatGPT toolkit, but using it as a browser extension does feel a bit unconventional. The user interface is different from what most people expect, as we are all used to a specific layout for search results. ChatGPT presents information in a chat format, which feels a bit weird IMO. Given that Google and other search engines have established a standard for over 20 years, this new approach will take some getting used to, but it's definitely worth exploring.
I've found that the search feature over-relies on search results as opposed to the history of our conversation. When asking it to recommend a product to meet a particular need, it recommended one that was discontinued. When I corrected it, it acknowledged the error and recommended a different model. When I told it that model didn't have a feature I needed, it went back to recommending the discontinued model. On top of this, the links to sources were German and Danish, and I'm in the US. In addition to not being able to read those websites, I would be more likely to be looking for US-based sources in order to keep shipping times and costs reasonable. So far, not impressed.
Congratulations on rolling out the ChatGPT search feature! This is a fantastic step forward in making AI even more dynamic and resourceful. The ability to access up-to-date information directly within ChatGPT is a game-changer, opening up endless possibilities for professionals, researchers, and creatives alike. Kudos to the OpenAI team for continuing to innovate and empower users with smarter tools for productivity and problem-solving. Looking forward to seeing how this feature transforms workflows!
