In a collaboration aimed at advancing practical knowledge on biodiversity impact and dependency assessments, PBAF and Impact Institute have announced a collaboration to work together on a biodiversity capacity–building programme. The ‘Finance & Nature Toolbox’ programme consists of, amongst other things, an awareness programme of training and webinars and of building a ‘Finance and Nature Toolbox’ – guide, supporting Financial Institutions (FIs) to take action on biodiversity. The programme, made possible by the Global Commons Alliance and Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, aims to familiarise FIs with biodiversity impact and dependency assessment tools available on the market and to encourage utilising those tools in practice. There is a clear need for practical information and guidance on the use of tools in the finance and biodiversity field. This is precisely what the capacity-building programme is destined to do: provide FIs with hands-on support to put the right tools to use.

🌍🌿 Boosting Biodiversity Finance for a Sustainable Future 🌿🌍 Awareness of biodiversity’s crucial role in sustainable development is growing among finance leaders. Yet, we haven't seen a major increase in finance flows towards biodiversity. Effective governance and partnerships between finance and environmental sectors are essential to scale and sustain biodiversity financing. 🌱💡 These partnerships need to address policy incoherence and market failures driving biodiversity loss. This includes greening harmful subsidies and optimizing existing resources. 🌳💼 Financing biodiversity is a shared responsibility of governments, the private sector, and all of us. Innovative market-driven solutions are emerging, with public, private, and civil society actors testing new investment models. The conservation finance market is young but growing. 📈🦋 To scale biodiversity finance, we need solid data on finance needs, past expenditures, and the value of natural capital. Economics and finance build the business case for effective solutions. 📊🌺 The BIOFIN - Biodiversity Finance Initiative supports national, regional, and global platforms to help countries reduce their finance gaps, ensuring biodiversity targets are met. BIOFIN focuses on better resource use, reallocating funds from harmful to helpful areas, and acting now to lessen future investment needs. 🌍💚 📝 Visit CYNK🌍https://lnkd.in/d_d8nQKc #BiodiversityFinance #Sustainability #BIOFIN #GreenFinance #Biodiversity #Conservation #SustainableDevelopment #EcoFriendly #ClimateFinance Penny Stock, Erica Fleet, Edson Hlatshwayo, Paxina Toe, Leticia Carvalho, Gabriel Pérez Salguera, Laura Iglesias, Ahmed Yassin, Neal Spackman, Sophie Gilbert, Tom Popple, Rhea Kochar, Sofya Ignatenko, Katy Baker, Josh Brann, Manesh Lacoul, Karina Whalley, Declan Conway, Rhett Ayers Butler, Adrian Dellecker, Mikkel Larsen, Ben W. The Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) which includes protecting 30% of land and seas by 2030, has set the stage for action on nature and biodiversity. - However, there is a USD 700 billion gap in annual biodiversity funding between now and 2030. - Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) released the report, "Investing in Nature as Infrastructure The Opportunity" - This report presents high level opportunities for investing in nature as infrastructure (NAI) by using innovative financing instruments. - It is intended as a high-level guide to set the direction and build momentum—particularly among MDBs—of investments in NAI. - It shows that by demonstrating the financial feasibility, impact and scalability of investing in NAI through proof-of-concept projects, MDBs, can work to mobilize private capital towards green infrastructure. Biodiversity-related projects have seen an increase in international funding in recent years, but remain a low priority compared to other development initiatives, according to a new report from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The report found total official development finance (ODF) for such projects grew from $7.3 billion in 2015 to $15.4 billion in 2022. That’s still less than what the nearly 200 governments that signed the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) in December 2022 agreed would be needed to halt biodiversity loss: at least $20 billion annually by 2025, and $30 billion annually by 2030. Together with The Biodiversity Consultancy, WWF Switzerland has developed a robust framework for assessing the potential impacts of investments or project interventions on biodiversity. On 23 April, we will show how different impacts of investment decisions on the five drivers of biodiversity loss can be directly compared.
We are excited to unveil the Biodiversity Impact Assessment Framework (BIAF), a tool that enables impact investors and financial institutions to assess and articulate the biodiversity impacts of their investments quantitatively. Developed by the experts at The Biodiversity Consultancy with WWF Switzerland’s support BIAF offers a clear, comparable way to measure positive impacts on biodiversity. Join our upcoming webinar on 23rd April to dive deep into BIAF, see real-world applications, and discuss how this can enhance your investment strategy. Our Impact Report on biodiversity is out today, and features an interview with our CEO Dirk Meuleman, exploring biodiversity, and why it needs to be the core focus with respect to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) over the next decade. 🌊 “Now it is up to investors and asset managers to push for more investment opportunities to seek to make a positive impact. While there are currently opportunities in the listed sector, I strongly believe that it’s possible to invest to protect biodiversity while earning a financial return in private markets, particularly private equity is the way to do this." The full report can be downloaded here ➡️ https://hubs.li/Q02v0vBH0 Key takeaways include: ⭐234% growth in funds focusing on biodiversity since 2015 ⭐21% of all impact funds in database open for biodiversity investing ⭐40.4% of impact funds in database have a biodiversity focus ⭐75% of all North American real asset funds focus on timber/forestry ⭐SDG2 is the investor preference for biodiversity-focused funds #sustainableinvesting #impactinvesting #biodiversity
