Will the Windsor EV act as a catalyst for faster EV adoption?

We addressed the key questions about the newly launched #MGWindsorEV, including how the battery rental system works, available financing options, whether to opt for the battery rental or purchase, its range, charging options, and compatible connectors.

Is the MG Windsor EV the most exciting electric car to be launched this year? 1. It gives you the option to either buy a full car, or buy the body and pay rental for the battery. 2. For example, you can either buy the Excite variant for Rs 13.49 lakh, or you can buy it for Rs 9.99 lakh and then pay just Rs 3.5 per km. 3. It's got huge space. The rear seat perhaps has the biggest legroom in entire industry. 4. Real range is 270-280 km. Acceleration is as good as Creta turbo. 5. It's an Indo-Chinese venture. My article. MG launches Windsor EV the first of its kind with BaaS, EV Car at the price of ICE, with cheaper running cost. Assuming 20 Rs per KW, at 80% it takes around 1000Rs to charge and assuming worst driving practices at 200KM per full charge it still costs Rs 5 per KM ( plus Rs 3.5 for Battery service , at capping of min 1500 KM per month) total Rs 8.5 per KM With lifetime battery warranty and assured 60% buy back between 3 years. In Comparision, a similar sized ICE car giving 10 kmpl costs Rs 9.4 per KM and vehicle depreciating to almost 50% value in 3 years, thus allowing Windsor to be the first EV whichis on par, or even cheaper to, its ICE counterparts. Take a bow, Morris Garages India ! 🫡 MG's recent launch of the Windsor EV, priced at ₹10 lakh with a unique Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model is excellent for the future of EVs in India. By decoupling the battery cost from the vehicle price & charging ₹3.5/km for battery usage, MG is not only making EVc more accessible, but also aligning with the growing demand for cost-effective, sustainable mobility solutions. Their innovative pricing strategy is a step in the right direction to enhance EV adoption in India. Windsor's effective cost of ~₹3.5/km positions it as a more economical option, thereby potentially attracting a broader customer base, especially those who have been hesitant to transition to EVs due to upfront costs. Having followed this space for a while now (from a consumer standpoint), the Windsor pricing approach addresses a critical barrier to EV adoption - the high initial investment. Enabling customers to pay for battery usage rather than ownership, MG is commoditising EVs, making them comparable to traditional vehicles from an affordability standpoint & in turn, setting a precedent for future EV offerings. While I'm not sure if this motivates me enough for my next EV purchase, it's definitely a good start! What are your thoughts on this new pricing model?
