Do you have a relevant idea for human health science that could be performed on the future Gateway lunar space station? If so, follow the steps below to let NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA), the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) know!

  • Step 1: Read the formal Request for Information (RFI) found here.
    • Your science ideas must be implementable within the constraints listed at the link above. These constraints involve mass and volume limitations, limited available time in space, and more. Of note: Ideas are expected to be exploration-relevant, simple, and require little to no crew interaction.
  • Step 2: Send us your ideas by following this path. You must create an account with NSPIRES to apply.

Who can apply? All parties including commercial entities, international organizations, academia, NASA Centers, and other government agencies are eligible to respond to this RFI.

Resources: A virtual workshop is scheduled for October 28, 2024 (1:00pm-2:00pm ET). To connect with this workshop, visit here.

Deadline: Ideas must be submitted on or before November 25, 2024.

Background on this RFI: This RFI does not constitute a commitment, implied or otherwise, that NASA, ESA, CSA, or JAXA will take procurement action in this matter. The information gathered will be used by members of the Gateway Program-sponsored Human Health Discipline Working Group (HHDWG), including NASA, ESA, CSA, and JAXA, to make decisions regarding potential human health science for the Gateway space station.

NASA, ESA, CSA, and JAXA intend to use the results of this RFI for informational purposes only. This RFI does not constitute a Request for Proposal (RFP), and it is not to be construed as a commitment by a Government to enter into a contract, nor will the Government pay for the information submitted in response to this request.

Background on Gateway: The NASA-led Gateway Program is an international collaboration to establish humanity’s first space station around the Moon, and is a vital component of the Artemis campaign. Gateway will help NASA and its partners test the technologies and capabilities required for a sustained human presence in deep space and chart a path for the first deep space human exploration missions. Gateway will offer unique opportunities to leverage the deep space lunar environment for scientific research and discovery. Gateway will serve as a year-round deep space laboratory, offering both internal and external study capabilities, and thus enabling a diverse array of scientific research. One of Gateway’s tenets is to have a multidisciplinary approach to utilization, or science opportunities.
