Robert A. Mott

Robert A. Mott is the chief of the Commercial Systems Engineering Division at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. In this role, Mott provides discipline-based technical expertise and oversees the delivery of engineering products and services to key NASA programs, including the Launch Services Program, Commercial Crew Program, and the Deep Space Gateway Logistics Project. His responsibilities span the full life cycle of these programs, ensuring successful development, integration, and mission support.

Experience

Prior to his current role, Mott held several leadership positions at NASA’s Kennedy, including chief of the Mechanical and Structural Engineering Division, deputy chief of the Mechanical and Structural Division, deputy chief of the Materials Sciences Division, and deputy chief of the Fluids and Propulsion Division. Throughout his career, Mott has been instrumental in maintaining a highly skilled engineering and scientific workforce, providing technical insights into ground support equipment, ground systems, space environment test systems, facilities, and flight systems.

Education

Mott earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from the University of South Florida in Tampa, a Master of Business Administration from the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, and a graduate certificate in space systems engineering from the Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, New Jersey. He is a registered professional engineer in the state of Florida.

Over the years, Mott has received numerous accolades for his contributions to NASA, including the NASA Exceptional Service Medal, the Space Flight Awareness Leadership Award, the Kennedy Space Center Equal Opportunity Award, and the prestigious NASA “Silver Snoopy” Award.
