Installing Language Bar

To install additional languages and keyboard layouts in Windows XP, users access the Regional and Language Options in Control Panel, click the Languages tab, select Details, click Add, and choose the language and keyboard layout. The Language bar can be configured to show on the desktop. In Windows 7, the Language bar is accessed via the taskbar menu and allows changing input languages and docking preferences.

Windows XP

To install another language and keyboard layout in Windows XP, follow these steps: 1. In the Windows XP standard Start menu, click Start, and then click Control Panel. In the Windows XP classic Start menu, click Start, click Settings, and then click Control Panel.

Double-click Regional and Language Options. Click the Languages tab, and then click Details under "Text Services and Input Languages". Click Add under "Installed Services", and then click the language you want to add and the keyboard layout you want to use for that language. To configure the settings for the Language bar, click Language Bar under "Preferences". Tick Show the language bar on the desktop.

To show the Language bar

Right-click the taskbar, point to Toolbars, and then click Language bar. Once the Language bar is displayed, you can right-click it to display options for changing its settings, including docking it on the taskbar or displaying it vertically instead of horizontally.
