An Operations Research Case Study: by Rohit Anand 10BME0153

This document presents an operations research case study that aims to optimize the testing time of different components of washing machines by assigning specific testing processes to different workers. The objective is to minimize the overall testing time using the Hungarian assignment algorithm. It provides the testing times for 5 different processes by 5 workers. The algorithm assigns each process to a worker to achieve a minimum total testing time of 174 seconds. The case study demonstrates how assignment problems can be solved using the Hungarian method to obtain practical solutions that match real-world industry data.

An Operations Research case study By ROHIT ANAND 10BME0153

OBJECTIVES
To assign 5 different types of TESTING to 5 different

PEOPLE having different rate of each components.

To minimize the overall TIME of test loop To solve the given problem using assignment problem

(Hungarian Algorithm

PROBLEM STATEMENT
Testing forms an important part of the production process. It is desired to optimize the testing time based on available resources. In view of the same , based on time taken by different people for different testing process we are trying to find an optimum time to be taken to perform each process . thus

standardizing the time required for each process thus saving on the overall production time taken.

Conclusion
Assignment problem can be handled with different

approaches .However the most closest solution to practical value can be obtained using hungerian method. The assignment model under consideration here is cross verified with the industry data and the solution matches the actual data available with the industry. The focus of the case study is to minimize the part testing time and is achieved with high degree of accuracy.
