Olympic fencing involves three weapons - foil, sabre, and epee. Each weapon has different rules for valid target areas. Foil targets are limited to the torso, sabre targets everything above the waist minus the hands, and epee targets are the entire body. The sport involves two fencers facing off on a narrow strip, with each bout timed and points scored for strikes to valid target areas with the appropriate weapon.

Fencing
Olypmic Fencing, better known as simply fencing, is a sport involving three different weapons. Each weapon has different
rules governing their use. The sport itself has two people, in protective gear, fence one another on a long narrow strip of
ground. Each bout is timed, and to score points, a fencer must strike his opponent in a valid target area.

Three Different Weapons

Among fencing, their are three different weapons categories availble to compete in.

The foil is the most basic weapon, often used as a training for beginning fencers. It is still considered an official weapon for the
sport though. The valid target area consists of only the torso, and nothing else.

The sabre is the second official weapon of fencing. Unlike foil though, the valid target area of sabre fencers consists of
everything above the waist, excluding the hands.
