ASSIGNMENT 1- VALVE AND SEAL


1. Each group (Group A, B, C and D) has to search a PNID layout from
books or website. Please state the source you get this layout in you
assignment. (Example from website:

from the books : Bill D. Berger & Kenneth E. Anderson (1979). Refinery
Operations; Pennwell Books.
2. The layout must have the mechanical instrument such a valve, pump
and compressor.
3. The PNID layout must showed the complete with the list of valve such
like:i. Control valve
ii.
Gate valve
iii.
Safety valve
iv.
Relief valve
v.
Check valve
4. Tag and numbering the symbol of valve that you see in the layout.
Explain how and why these valves are used for.
For example, please refer the PNID layout that showed at the below

EXPLAINATION
1 Butterfly valve this valve is uses in the pipeline to open and close the flow

from pump to mixer.


2 Safety valve this valve is uses to release the over pressurized liquid in the

pump system or pipeline.


5. Each group must do a slide or flash card for presentation (20 January
2012). Submit the assignment and slide after the end of classes.
6. The leader of group must make sure the entire members are given a
cooperation and participant when done the group assignment.
