Reflection Episode 3 Field Study 3 Source

The document discusses observations of a social studies teacher's traditional teaching methods and how the observer would approach teaching the same lesson differently. The observed teacher lectured and used the chalkboard while students passively listened. In contrast, the observer would facilitate more collaborative and student-centered learning. Students would discuss topics while the teacher adds points and ensures learning beyond memorization. The goal is for students to thoughtfully engage with social issues and learn in an active, meaningful way aligned with the K-12 program and modern teaching approaches.

Reflections

(Episode 3)
1. Put yourself in the place of the teacher. What would you do similarly and
what would you do differently if you would teach the same lesson to the
same group of students? Why?
The teacher that we observed is considered as a traditional teacher.
Even if she is teaching Araling Panlipunan as a part of the implemented K to
12 program, her strategy in teaching is very traditional. Because as the
discussion goes on, she is the only one who is discussing the topic. Her
students just looked at her, sitting in their chairs listening to their teacher.
At the same time, she also used traditional instrument in teaching especially
chalk and board. Before she will teach the lesson, she let her students copy
the topics that should be discussed.
If I will be the teacher teaching the same topic, similarly, I going to
consider my philosophy in teaching. Like our resource teacher, To teach, to
inspire and to learn is her philosophy in teaching. Second, I am going to
consider also my students. I am going to ensure that my students will learn
from me. Not only factual information but also they should learn how to
react and reflect to the different social issues occurring now a day. Because
as a 21st century teacher of K to 12 program, it should be included in the
teaching learning process.
On the contrary, I am going to make our class cooperative and in a
collaborative manner. I am going to be the facilitator inside the classroom. It
should be student- centered that they are the one who will discussed the
topic. My job is to add additional points about what they have discussed. I
am going to make the class more active and meaningful by applying what I
have learned when I was in college. I am going to be new millennium

teacher who is teaching Social Studies of the K to 12 program. More

importantly, as kind of this teacher, my primary purpose is for my students
to learn from the heart and not learning through memorization.
