EOC Chapter 2

This document appears to be an assessment for a thermodynamics course, containing 3 questions related to thermodynamic processes and concepts. The questions involve: 1) calculating the internal energy change of superheated steam that expands at constant volume until a specified pressure and dryness fraction, 2) determining the specific heat at constant volume of a gas that receives a specified amount of heat and increases in temperature, and 3) calculating the heat rejected per kg of a perfect gas that is cooled in a rigid vessel until its pressure falls to a specified value.

DJJ2073 THERMODYNAMICS
END OF CHAPTER 2 (CLO1)

1. A superheated steam at 24 bar and 500oC expands at constant volume until the pressure
becomes 6 bar and the dryness fraction is 0.9. Calculate the changes in the internal
energy of steam. Sketch the process in the form of a P-v diagram.
(10 marks)

2. Two kilograms of a gas receive 200 kJ as heat at constant volume process. If the
temperature of the gas increases by 100 oC, determine the Cv of the process.
(5 marks)
3. A perfect gas is contained in a rigid vessel at 3 bar and 315 oC. The gas is then cooled

until the pressure falls to 1.5 bar. Calculate the heat rejected per kg of gas. Given: M =
26 kg/kmol and = 1.26.
