What is Conservation?

• Conservation is the wise and frugal use of natural resources that

cannot be replenished like minerals, water, nutrients, animals,
plants and energy.

• Energy conservation is the practice of decreasing the quantity of

energy used.

• Efficient energy or energy efficiency, is using less energy to

provide the same level of energy service.
ENERGY

• WHERE DOES THIS ENERGY (POWER)

COME FROM?

• Electricity
• Gas (natural – fossil fuels)
• Kerosene
• Wood/Coal
• The Sun (solar)
• Wind (windmill)
• Water
ENERGY

• The electricity we use is mostly generated

by dams.

• Some proportion is generated by imported

fuel.

• Fuel prices are high and continue to rise.

ENERGY CONSERVATION
• Energy Conservation (saving) is a must.

• Electricity is basic to modern life but it has become

EXPENSIVE for:
 Businesses
 Industries
 Agricultures
 Households
 Etc
ENERGY CONSERVATION TIPS
1. Use Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLS) / Energy Savers

• Energy Savers last 10 times longer than

regular bulbs.

• Gives the same amount of light.

• Use only a quarter of the electricity

regular bulbs use.

• A 15-watt Energy Saver can replace a

60-watt regular bulb
ENERGY CONSERVATION TIPS
2. Turn Off Lights When You Do Not Need Them

• We must use energy, especially electricity,

wisely and save money.
ENERGY CONSERVATION TIPS

3. Turn off the Radio and TV if no one is

listening or watching.

4. Turn down the Radio and TV, the louder

they are the more Energy they use.
ENERGY CONSERVATION TIPS

5. Concentrate lighting in reading and working

areas and where it is needed for safety.

6. When you need bright light use one large Wattage

Lamp instead of several small ones.
ENERGY CONSERVATION TIPS

7. IRON once or twice per week, not everyday.

APPLIANCES that heat up use a lot of energy.

8. Make sure that OVEN is closed properly so

that heat is not wasted during cooking time.
ENERGY CONSERVATION TIPS

9. Try to do homework and some chores

during daylight hours when you need no
electric lights.

10. Use Solar water Heaters instead of Tank

type Electric Heaters.
ENERGY CONSERVATION TIPS

11. Buy Energy Efficient Refrigerators.

12. Place the Refrigerator 6 inches or 15

centimeters from wall for good air circulation.

13. Do not turn up the refrigerator too high.

The higher it is turned, the more electricity it
uses.

14. Defrost your refrigerator regularly. When

ICE/FROST builds up, the refrigerator uses
more electricity.
ENERGY CONSERVATION TIPS

15. Machine Wash clothes in Cold

Water.

16. Only use the washing machine, if you

have a full load. It is a waste to wash few
pieces of clothing at a time.

17. Where possible, hang clothes to dry

instead of using a dryer.
ENERGY CONSERVATION TIPS

18.Tighten up your house so it doesn't

leak out all the air you wish to cool.

19. Make sure cooling system runs as

efficiently as possible

20. Turn off the Air Conditioner when

you are not using.
