Technical Description of PenDOT

PenDOT is a mechanical pen designed to be a portable calculator that can be
connected to the internet. It is most commonly used for reviewing purposes and a
quick access to the internet.
PenDOT can be held in the palm of a hand and is made of hi-impact plastic.
Approximately one-fourth of PenDOT is wrapped with soft black rubber for
comfortable gripping between the thumb, index, and middle finger while writing.
PendOT measures 160 mm in length and 7mm in diameter.
PendOT consists of nine main external parts:the ballpoint, the case, the
option buttons, the motion sensor lens, the inside screen, the pop-out screen, the
memory card slot, the keychain and the cap.
The ballpoint is ultrafine and is 0.30 mm in diameter.

The case is made of hi-impact plastic and is devised to appear like a glass
crystalline on the outside. It is the main body of PenDOT and it is where the other
parts are attached to. The case is 155 mm in length and 7 mm in diameter. It has a
cone cap- a hollowed cast casing designed to protect the ballpoint located inside. It
features changeable designs- limited to five.
The option buttons are located at the other end of the pen. There are four
different colors- silver, gold, transparent, and glittered black- marking four different
functions. The silver-colored button is pressed for solving mathematical problems.
The gold button is pressed when surfing the internet. The transparent button is for
recording what is being written and the glittered black button is for retraction.
The motion sensor lens is circular- 3 mm in diameter. The lens is located 2

mm below the cone cap, on the part of the pen wrapped with soft black rubber. The
black rubber has a hole in it for the lens to be visible. The main function of the
motion sensor lens is detecting and recording the characters written by the pen.
Beside the lens is a blinker, signalling the use of the internet. Its color is green when
the connection is fast and red when the connection is slow.
The inside screen is located 5mm below the rubber-wrapped part of the pen.
It is 70mm in length and 5mm in width. The screen is where the characters being
recorded are shown.
The pop-out screen- 80mm in length and 70mm in width- is located inside the
case. It rolls in and out once the silver and gold buttons are pressed. It shows the
answers to the mathematical problems and results of the searched terms from the
internet.
The memory card slot is for inserting memory cards up to 32GB, which allows
the expansion of the pens built-in memory.
The keychain is made of hi-impact plastic just like the case of the pen. It is
attached to the pen, 5mm below the inside screen. Different shapes and sizes are
manufactured, therefore the owner of the pen may decide which one to buy. The
keychain features two circular buttons, one for changing the case design and the
other for erasing the recorded data.
The cap is cylindrical, 7mm in length and 7mm in diameter. It serves as
protection to the option buttons. Attached to it is an eraser, 5mm in length and
7mm in diameter.
PenDOT is created with students in mind. It is a writing instrument that may
be sensitive, but easy to use and maintain. It has the physical feature of a pen, but
it is a calculator with an internet connection. The search engine of the pen,
however, is programmed to exclude social networking sites. This is mainly because
the pen is solely for academic purposes. PenDOT is more than just a pen, it is every
students mechanical best friend.

silver and gold buttons are pressed

Limitations:
