ASSURE models essay

Nowadays, the uses of technology in works have become popular among us.
Technology makes our life become more easy and simple. It will not burden the human
beings, in fact it simplify humans work. Hence, it is not possible for our education
system to take the advantages of using the technology. It can help the teachers to teach
the pupils more effectively. Most teachers understand that integrating technology into
the curriculum is the best way to make a positive difference in education. While many
specific strategies can be used to add technology to the mix, the following model is one
example of how to integrate technology into your future lessons.
An ASSURE model is good for teaching and learning because it is an
instructional model for planning a lesson and the technology that will enhance it. The
ASSURE model is a six-step Instructional Systems Design (ISD), intended to help
teachers utilize technology and media in the classroom (Michalak, 2011). Each of the
letters in ASSURE has different definition. For example, A stands for analyze the
learner; S stands for state the objective; the next S stands for selections of the
medias and materials; U stands for utilize the medias and materials; R stands for
require learner participation; and lastly E for evaluate and revise. These six major
steps can help the teachers to design and develop the most appropriate learning
environment for their students.
The model is a step-by-step model. To apply these steps, the teacher should
concerns about the ASSURE six important components. Firstly, before begin the lesson,
check and identify the learners. Teacher must analyze their background knowledge,
their ages and their learning styles. This step can help the teacher to select the media
and material that suitable for them. Next is state the objective of your lesson plan. It is
important to know the result of the instruction. If the objective could not be achieved, the
lesson plan needs to be improved. Then, we move to the selection of the media and
materials. As the teacher has analyzed the learners, the media and materials chosen
must be cater to their level. This can enhance the understanding of the pupils in

learning and teaching progress. After that, based on the media and materials chosen,
the teacher needs to decide how the materials will be used by the students. Teachers
need to preview the materials before begin the lesson to ensure the lesson works
appropriately. Meanwhile, on the step 5, it depends on the learner because this step
requires learner participation. After the teacher provided everything, the learners should
participate in the lesson. The students should be more active in the activity as the
teacher needs the response and feedback from the students. The participation of the
students is important for the teacher to improve the activity conducted to become more
interesting and fun in the next lesson. We as a teacher trainee should not forget about
the last step. The last step is evaluate and revise. The teacher must make a reflection
based on the lesson made. We need to identify the strength and weaknesses in the
lesson and detect whether the students meets with the learning outcome or not. This
step can help the students to success in the subject. Thats all for the six major steps on
ASSURE model. Follow the sequences and we will not be disappointed.
ASSURE model has been selected to be applied in the classroom nowadays. It is
the best model for now. This is because the model is more detailed than the others. It
gives details about students, details about the lesson, and so on. Besides that, the
model can develop the creativity of the teacher. The variation of using the media and
materials in the class shows that the teachers are improving their creatively thinking
skills. This model is like an early preparation for the teacher before beginning the
lesson. It is good to make an early preparation because we want to avoid the confusion
and mistakes when teaching and learning process happens. Preview and revise the
lesson plan to ensure the understanding of the students. These benefits makes the
ASSURE model become more special in the system education.

Reflection

In year 2, semester 4, Technology in Teaching and Learning (EDU 3105) had been
introduced by the lecturer to our batch. It is a compulsory subject for each of the teacher
trainees. Since we learnt this subject, we need to complete an assignment given to see
how much our understanding of the subject. Of course we will be evaluating by our
coursework assignment quality. For this time, the assignment is about using the
technology in teaching and learning. It means that, we must create and prepare a
slideshow in Powerpoint by using the selected media and materials. We have chosen
Occupation as the topic for our slideshow. This is a group work assignment so my team
members are Nik Yusuf and I.
After several discussion, we work together to finish the task. We divided the task
so everyone will have their work to do. Before we did our assignment, we are firstly read
and understand the question carefully. The question requires us to choose the topic of
the slideshow and make a powerpoint presentation. The powerpoint presentation must
be based on the CASPER technique to attract the students attention. It must be simple
and easy to understand when going through the lesson. Before we started this
assignment, we faced the problem to use the hyperlink. The After several explanation
made by Mdm Maliga, we were able to use the hyperlink appropriately. During making
the assignment, we are faced the problem once again. We have to find the suitable
theme for our slideshow. We must identify the suitable theme that caters to the students
level. This is because we want to make that powerpoint presentation is fun and

interesting. We also have to find the suitable information, pictures and panels to be
used in our slideshow. With the guidance of our peers, we were able to understand on
how to do the task given.
While doing the task, we must refer to the ASSURE model to make our work
easier. ASSURE model definitely help us by giving the step by step procedure. After did
this assignment, we are found that we learned something from this task. For example
we learn to apply our ICT skills to make the slideshow and can be used in future
especially in school. That is what the objectives of the EDU 3105 is all about. I am so
grateful that we finished our task on time.
