Electrical Inspection and Ground Assurance Program

Be sure that the electrical tools and equipment and their cords are in good condition before use.
1. All cord sets and electrical tools shall be inspected before use.
2. Cord set testing will be completed by a competent person, designated by Elkhorn
Construction, Inc and trained in proper test procedures by Safety or Certified Electrician.
This competent person will be responsible for inspections and testing of cord sets on
assigned work sites.
3. Any defective tools or cord sets shall be tagged "Danger - Do Not Use."
4. No equipment shall be returned to use until it has been repaired and tested.
5. Documentation on daily visual inspections is not required but if faulty equipment is
detected during a safety audit it will be assumed that the inspections are not being done.
6. Colored tape shall be used to indicate that cord sets or electrical tools have been tested.
Tape colors are:
 Jan, Feb, Mar White
 Apr, May, June Green
 July, Aug, Sept Red
 Oct, Nov, Dec Blue
7. Portable electrical equipment that is not double insulated shall be tested with the proper
equipment quarterly and these tests shall be documented.
8. All cord sets shall be tested quarterly and the results of these tests shall be documented.
9. All equipment that is found to be faulty and is repaired shall be tested before the
equipment is placed back in service and the results of electrical testing shall be
documented.
10. GFCI’s must be tested before use and quarterly using the following procedure:
 Press and release the test button and then plug a lamp into the GFCI
 Push and release the reset button (the lamp should light)
 Press and release the test button and the reset button should pop out, and the light should
go out
 If the GFCI tripped but the light remained on, the line and load connections are reversed
