Is A Type of Twisted Pair Copper Wire Cable For Local Area Network (LAN) Use For Which The RJ-45 Connectors at Each End Have The Same Pinout

The lesson plan aims to teach students about LAN cabling. The objectives are for students to be able to identify tools and materials for LAN cabling like UTP cable, RJ45 connectors, and crimping tools. Students will learn to distinguish straight-through from crossover cables and perform color coding for wires. They will create a straight-through cable and learn safety precautions when working with tools.

Lesson Plan in Technical-Vocational-Livelihood

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson the students will be able to:
 Enumerate the tools and materials used in LAN Cabling.
 Identify the color coding of wires used in a straight-through LAN Cabling.
 Perform a straight through LAN Cabling.
 Value the importance of the safety precaution while working.

II. Subject Matter

Topic: LAN Cabling (Straight –Through LAN Cable)
Materials: pictures, projector, UTP cable, RJ45, Crimping tool, Lan cable
tester
References:
 Cabling http:/k-12pisd.edu/currinst/network/ifl_3st.pdf
 Ethernet Cable Color-Coding Diagram

III. Procedure
A. Daily Routine
1.1Opening prayer
1.2Greetings
1.3 Checking of attendance

B. Motivation
Show pictures of computer games that uses LAN Connection, ask the student
if they want to know how it works. Use Word Equation to reveal the topic for
the day.

C. Review of Technical Terms

*LAN – Local Area Network

* Cable- comprises two or more wires running side by side and bonded,
twisted or braided together to form a single assembly, the ends of which can
be connected to two devices.

* Pin – piece of metal used to fasten two things together.

D. Presentation

3.1 Lan Cabling : process of creating cable used to create a network that
interconnects computer.
Two types of LAN Cable
 Straight-through cable - is a type of twisted pair copper
wire cable for local area network (LAN) use for which the RJ-45
connectors at each end have the same pinout.
 Crossover cable - is a type of Ethernet cable used to connect
computer devices together directly.

Color coding of ethernet cable

3.2 Materials and Tools use in LAN cabling

 RJ45 connector
 Crimping tool
 Lan tester
 Unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) cable

3.3 Safety Precaution

 Handle tools carefully
 Avoid playing with blades in crimping tools

3.4 Steps in LAN Cabling

Step 1: Prepare all the material needed
Step 2: Carefully remove the outer jacket of the cable
Step 3: Untwist the pairs and arrange the wires based on what color
coding you are making
Step 4: Trim the untwisted wires to a suitable length
Step 5: Keep the wire flat in-order as you push them into the RJ-45
Step 6: Place the wire plug into the crimping tool
Step 7: Repeat all the step in the other end of the cable
Step 8: Test the cable using the LAN tester

E. Group Activity
Directions: Students will create a Straight-Through cable by following
the steps in crimping the LAN cable for 20minutes.
F. Generalization
LAN cabling is the process of creating a LAN cable which is used in
interconnecting computers. There are 2 types of LAN cable the Crossover and
Straight-Through. Straight-Through cable is used to connect computers with
the use of HUB. There are several tools used in LAN cabling like UTP cable,
Crimping tool and LAN tester.

G. Application
Directions: Answer the following questions.

1. What are the 2 types of LAN Cable?

2-3. Write down the color coding of Straight-through cable T568A.
4. What is the tool used to attach RJ45 to UTP cable?
5. It is used to connect computer devices together directly.

H. Assignment
Search on how to use LAN cable using router/switch.

RJ 45
The "45" simply refers to the number of the interface standard.
In telecommunications, an interface standard is a standard that describes one or more
functional characteristics (such as code conversion, line assignments, or protocol compliance) or
physical characteristics (such as electrical, mechanical, or optical characteristics) necessary to
allow the exchange of information ...

A straight-through cable is a type of twisted pair cable that is used in local area networks to
connect a computer to a network hub such as a router. This type of cable is also sometimes
called a patch cable and is an alternative to wireless connections where one or more computers
access a router through a wireless signa
