1. The following table shows all availability of supply to each warehouse, the requirement of each
market and unit transportation cost (in Rs,) from each warehouse to each market. Find the
optimum schedule and minimum total transportation cost.
Warehouse

Market
P Q R S Supply
A 6 3 5 4 22
B 5 9 2 7 15
C 5 7 8 6 8
Demand 7 12 17 9 45

2. A manufacturer produces two different models: X and Y, of the same product. Model X makes a
contribution of Rs. 50 per unit and model Y, Rs. 30 per unit towards the total profit. Raw
materials r1 and r2 are required for the production. At least 18 kg of r1 and 12 kg of r2 must be
used daily. Also at most 34 hrs of labour are to be utilized. A quantity of 2 kg of r1 is needed for
model X and 1 kg of r1 for model Y. For each of X and Y, 1 kg of r2 is required. It takes 3 hrs to
manufacture model X and 2 hrs to manufacture model Y. How many units of each model should
be produced to maximize the profit? Use graphical method to solve the given LP problem.

3. A Department has 5 employees with five jobs to be performed. The time ( in hours ) each
employee will take to perform each job is given in the effectiveness matrix. How should the jobs
be allocated one per employee, so as to minimize the total man- hours

4. Use the Simplex method to solve the following LP problem

Maximum Z = 3x1 + 5x2 + 4x3
Subject to the constraints
i) 2x1 + 3x2 ≤ 8
ii) 2x2 + 5x3 ≤ 10
iii) 3x1 + 2x2 + 4x3 ≤ 15 and
iv) x1 , x2, x3 ≥ 0

5. What is Game theory about? What are the objectives of it?

Also find out value of game, optimal strategies and whether the game is fair or strictly
determinable

6. The no. of customers approaching to the tailor appears to be Poisson distributed with a mean of 8
cust/hr. The tailor attends the customers on FCFS basis and the customers wait if the need be.
The tailor can attend the cust at an avg rate of 12 cust/hr with the service time exponentially
distributed.
The utilization parameter
The probability that the queuing system is idle
The avg time that the tailor is free on a 10 hrs working day
The probability associated with the number of customers (0 through 5) in the queuing
system.
What is the expected number of customers in the tailor shop?
What is the expected number of customers waiting for tailor’s service?
What is the avg length of queues that have atleast one customer?
How much time should a customer expect to spend in the queue.
What is the expected time a customer would spend in the tailor’s shop?
