PRAYER
➤ In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Come,
Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful. And kindle in them the fire of your
love. Send forth your Spirit, and they shall be created. And you will renew the
face of the earth. Let us pray. Lord, by the light of the Holy Spirit you have
taught the hearts of your faithful. In the same Spirit help us to relish what is
right
and always rejoice in your consolation. We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM INTRODUCTION
➤ This Religious Education unit begins with the human experience of wondering at
community as a part of broader society. The unit then explores:
➤ Ways Jesus came to model respect for leaders and rules in communities;
➤ Ways Catholics celebrate the Church community by reflecting on people in the past to
discover leadership and rules related to God’s Chosen People, the Israelites;
➤ You could help your child during this unit by, for example:
➤ sharing with your child the communities to which you belong;
➤ discussing with your child community leaders who have been
inspirational to you and why;
➤ introducing your child to your Parish Priest;
➤ sharing memories of parish life from your childhood;
➤ sharing memories you have of leaders in the Church – priests, bishop,
popes;
➤ recalling times when you chose to observe the Fourth Commandment,
Honour your mother and father.
WONDER QUESTIONS
➤ As they grow in appreciation for the
communities and societies to which they
belong, many begin to wonder at questions
such as:
➤ How different would my life be without
communities?
➤ Do I express appreciation sufficiently to those
who try to provide for my needs in different
communities?
➤ Do I contribute sufficiently to communities,
especially my family and school?
➤ Why do people make it difficult for others by
disobeying rules and laws?
