ASSIGNMENT-2
Last Date of Submission: 23rd Oct. 2018

NOTE: Assignments are to be submitted in A4 pages only. Assignments done on loose sheets/ torn pages
of note book will not be accepted.

1. A voltage of v (t) = 100 sin(ωt) is applied to a circuit. The current flowing through the circuit is
i(t) = 15 sin (ωt-30). Determine the average power delivered to the circuit.
2. An alternating voltage is given by V = 311 sin314t and the current is i = 707sin 377t. Calculate i)
frequency ii) maximum value. iii) Effective value iv) average value v) form factor. vi) peak
factor.
3. A coil of resistance 5 ohm and inductance 100 mH is connected in series with a 200 microfarad
capacitor across a 220V, 50Hz supply. Calculate (i) inductive reactance, (ii) capacitive reactance,
(iii) impedance of the whole circuit in complex form (iv)the current (v) power factor (vi) total
power and (vii) the voltages across the coil and the capacitor. Draw an illustrative phasor diagram
depicting the voltage and current.
4. An inductor coil is connected to a supply of 250V at 50Hz and takes a current of 5A. The coil
dissipates 750Watt. Calculate (i) power factor (ii) resistance of coil and (iii) inductance of coil.
5. A pure inductance of 318mH is connected in series with a pure resistance of 75Ω. The circuit is
supplied from 50 Hz source and the voltage across 75 Ω resistor is found to be 150V. Calculate
the supply voltage and the phase angle.
6. A coil when connected across a 100V dc supply dissipates 500W of power. When connected
across a 100 V ac supply of frequency 50 Hz, it dissipates 200 Watt. Calculate the values of
resistance and inductance of the coil.
7. 6. A transformer with 40 turns on the high voltage winding is used to step down the voltage from
240V to 120V. Find the number of turns in the low voltage winding.
8. A 2- KVA, 2000V/200V single phase transformer has the primary and secondary resistances as
3ohms and 10 ohms respectively. Determine the following;
(i) Rated current at primary and secondary.
(ii) Copper loss in the transformer.

the power factor of the load is 0.8, calculate;
(i) Full load efficiency,
(ii) Load corresponding to maximum efficiency, and
(iii) Maximum efficiency at unity power factor.
10. Classify with examples about the various types of magnetic materials. Mention the properties of
