Breeze Philippines - May Bisa NG 10 Kamay

The document contains summaries of three advertisements analyzed through different approaches: feminism, Marxism, and archetypal. The first ad promotes a laundry detergent showing how it removes stains. The second is a Pantene ad raising awareness of gender biases. The third is a body spray ad showing a teenager hiding his sexuality from his father.

Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjJ-wCqUo6g

Summary:

The commercial is advertising a laundry detergent powder called Breeze that

claims to have the power of 10 hands and can remove stubborn stains in just one wash.
In the video, a boy helped two persons picked the fruits that fell to the ground because
of the torn plastic bag. He wiped and cleaned the fruits with his shirt and used it as an
alternative bag that’s why it became dirty. The stains were easily removed when
washed using the detergent Breeze.

Critique: Feminism Approach

I observed from the commercial that we usually relate household chores like
washing of clothes to women. Most of us think that it is always the duty of the ladies
that’s why female actors are commonly chosen if the commercial is about laundry.
Pantene ‘Labels Against Women’ Digital Ad

Summary:

The commercial is from a shampoo brand called Pantene that aims to give
awareness on gender biases and double standards that still exist today. In the video,
men and women displayed same behaviors but were labeled differently. The campaign
encourages us to be strong and not let labels hold us back.

Critique: Marxism Approach

I witnessed in the commercial the gender inequality in our society where women
who are bold or assertive are criticized. Whether in their careers, opinions or lifestyle,
women usually are expected to downplay their personalities to be accepted. Because of
these situations, men appear to be rude and arrogant in the eyes of some women even
though it is not the gentlemen’s fault we have this stereotyping in the society.

Summary:

The commercial is advertising a body spray from the brand called Bench. In the
video, a student acts masculine around his father but changes his behavior once at
school. He puts on the female body spray around his friends to smell good and catch
the eye of his crush. His father noticed that he smells like a woman and assumed he
have a girlfriend. At the end, the teenager realized that his father had always known his
sexuality and is completely supportive about it.

Critique: Archetypal Approach

I noticed in the commercial some significant objects and scenes that were
repeatedly shown to emphasize some ideas. First, the body spray represents the secret
of the son. Its smell is a reminder of his true identity that he hides from his father.
Second, the school is like his haven where he can confidently express his self, because
he knows that his friends who accept him for who he is are there with him. And the
scene where he feels uncomfortable every time he greets his father after coming home
is like a representation of the sad reality that members of the LGBT community are
facing. It shows that in the eyes of this group of people, there are still other who do not
totally accept them in our society.
