How To Install Android 4
How To Install Android 4
4 KitKat on PC via
Android x86 ISO
Android has for long been restricted to smart phones and tablets, and is rightly
considered as the mobile operating system. However, the advent of unofficial
builds of Android designed exclusively for Intel's x86 hardware architecture with
the likes of Dell XPS12 has changed the platform game.
IBTimes UK reminds its readers that it will not be held liable for any damage to
device during or after Android-x86 software installation. Users are advised to
proceed at their own risk.
Prerequisites
1. Download the Android-x86 ISO file which is more appropriate for your
laptop, desktop or tablet model (check for model numbers with the
download links).
2. USB flash drive or a bootable CD/DVD drive
3. Ensure there is sufficiently free hard disk space on the computer/laptop on
which you want to install Android-x86 OS:
For Froyo – ICS, 2GB
For Jelly Bean 4.2 and 4.3, 8GB
For KitKat 4.4.2, 10GB
Steps to Install Android 4.4 KitKat on Your PC
Download the version of Android-x86 ISO that's suitable for your computer
hardware, and UNetbootin tool for flashing.
Make a bootable USB drive with Unetbootin and the ISO image you
downloaded earlier. Just click on the Diskimage button (see screenshot
below) and select the ISO file you downloaded in step 1.
Reboot the computer with USB drive as source by tweaking a couple of
settings in system BIOS. However, latest computers often default to USB
drive at boot time, whenever it's available.
In the ensuing pop-up menu, select Install Android x86 to hard disk.
Choose the partition where you wish to install Android x86. If you chose to
use a new partition, don't forget to format it right away.
Allow the install process to continue (Choose Yes or confirm to continue),
as you are prompted to give permissions at various stages during GRUB
Boot loader installation. Do not click cancel at any stage, else the system
boot ROM might get corrupted.
Now another prompt will ask your permission to perform system /r/w
(read/write operations). Just click Yes to continue.
If you prefer to install ICS or earlier versions before KitKat, then you get
another prompt to install virtual SD card. You may use 1800 MB of hard
drive space as virtual SD card for flashing firmware. It is the maximum
space supported.
Once the Android-x86 software is completely installed, reboot the
computer.
As this installation supports multiboot setup, you can switch between Windows or
Android at boot time, according to your taste.

HTC One Max Gets Android 4.4.2 Update with Official OTA Firmware
Amazon Fire TV vs Chromecast vs Apple TV vs Roku: Which One to Buy?
Windows 8.1 Update: Features and Release Date Revealed
However, it is now possible to root Galaxy Note 3 without actually tripping KNOX-
warranty, but rather bypassing it with Root De La Vega (RDLV) rooting tool. The
RDLV is a joint creation of popular XDA developers, Designgears and Chainfire.
NOTE: The KNOX-Warranty void bit actually keeps track of the changes made to
stock firmware and sets a flag when any third-party software tries to manipulate
the stock settings and override the system permissions. In such situations, the
device's warranty status will become void, which will cease technical and
hardware support from Samsung.
Device Compatibility
Here is some great news, as RDLV rooting tool is supported on every Samsung
device with Knox security installed (excluding Exynos devices).
On the downside, those devices running PDA codes: MJ4, MJ7, MK1, MK2 or
higher may trip KNOX, even after rooting is successful.
Go to Settings > General > About Phone and then tap on Build Number 7 times to
unlock the developer settings. Now return to general settings and enable 'USB
debugging' mode under Developer options.
Start Odin on computer, after connecting your phone via USB cable to
computer. If USB drivers for the phone are installed correctly on computer,
Odin should recognise your phone and a blue status bar should appear in
the ID: COM box (top left corner of Odin).
In Odin, click AP button and navigate to the location of firmware file which
was created earlier using Cygwin. The file should be accessible through
"C:Note 3output" and the filename should read something like:
"N9005XXUENB4_N9005DBTENB1_N9005XXUENB1_HOME_VEGA.tar.md5
"
Note: The filename might change depending on the firmware build and
Note 3 model number. However, the filename can be identified with the
word "VEGA" at the end. As the firmware is already patched and includes
the RDLV files in it, we can root the phone without actually tripping the
KNOX security.
Ensure Auto-Reboot and F.Rest Time options are selected. But, the re-
partition option must be unchecked. Leave all other options at their default
values.
Now click Start in Odin and wait until the firmware installation completes.
It should barely take a few minutes to complete installing the software.
Odin will automatically indicate "Reset" and your phone should reboot
automatically. The phone may take longer than normal to complete first
boot. Do not disconnect the USB cable yet.
Now, open the second RDLV.zip file and extract its contents to the root
folder on your phone. You should now get two folders: "root_files" and
"root_de_la_vega.sh".
Once the file extraction is complete, turn off your phone and Power it on
again. You may setup language and Google accounts settings for first use
and then delete the two folders ("root_files" and "root_de_la_vega.sh") you
copied earlier to the root folder of the phone.
Reboot the phone for the final time and your device is now rooted. You can
download the root checker app from Google Play Store to verify if the root
installation is successful.
Boot the phone into Download mode once again to confirm if Knox
warranty void and Knox Kernel lock are OxO and current binary reads:
"Samsung Official". If this is true, then you have successfully rooted the
device without tripping KNOX.

Wow… Odin3 has lot of new versions since my last update. I missed out several
versions like Odin3 3.10.0, v3.10.3, 3.10.5, 3.10.6 and now the latest version Odin3
v3.10.7. That’s what happens when I don’t have Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4 last
year. And Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5 this year. Anyway, here is the
Odin tool for you to root, install new firmware, custom ROM or modification. No matter
you are a developer, end user or Samsung worker, Odin will help you a lot in these
process – flash a stock firmware, kernel and recovery. It is very useful when your
Samsung device is in Odin Download Mode. As usual, Odin3 is meant for users with
some technical knowledge. Therefore, only use it if you know what you are doing…
Odin3 v3.10.7 is designed for latest Samsung Android devices like Samsung Galaxy S6,
S6 Edge, S6 Edge+ and Galaxy Note 5. Older models are supported as well. Latest is
always the best, right? Hmm… Not really as this version removed support for Windows
XP or earlier. But you should use latest Microsoft Windows 10 if you own this year
Samsung flagship devices, right? Else use backOdin3 v3.09.
Note – You need to have Samsung Android USB Driver for Windows installed first in
order to use Odin3. You can install USB driver through Samsung Kies or standalone
package. Else Odin can’t detect them in Odin Download Mode. But do ensure Samsung
Kies is not opened or loaded in system tray when using Odin.

Personally, I recommend user to install Samsung Kies which will install these USB
drivers for you too. It is a useful tool to transfer music, contacts and photos. Make
backup and restore of your important data and settings. Finally, update to latest
firmware and sync wirelessly from your Galaxy phone or tablet. Else you can always
download the standalone package of Samsung USB Driver here.

Once you have downloaded the latest version, simply head over to the Update Checker part of the
tool to select and download your firmware. In theory, this negates the need to use two tools
(XperiFirm and FlashTool) to create a FTF firmware file as detailed in our recent guide. See some
steps below in how to take advantage of this.
DOWNLOAD: FlashTool (0.9.18.1) [Mirror]
To check firware on your handset, go to “Devices” > “Check Updates”
This will bring up the Device Selector for you to choose your mobile.
Now click on your phone variant which will load a list of customisation versions for various carriers
& regions. Click on the version to find out the latest firmware version.
Once you have chosen your firmware, you can start the download by double-clicking on the
firmware. The message at the bottom of the screen will then change to “Decrypting FileSets” and
then “Creating Bundle”.
This will then bring up the Bundler as seen in the screen below. Select all items on the left side of
the screen, move it to the right and then click “Create” which will then create a FTF firmware
file.

The much awaited update for the very first Xperia Z device and its siblings, Android 4.4.4 KitKat is
finally here. Earlier today, Sony started rolling out Android 4.4.4 KitKat with the build number
10.5.A.0.283 to the Xperia Z users, the firmware is now listed on the official site of Sony as well. As
usual, the new update packs up so many enhancements. Atop is the Android 4.4.4 KitKat tag and
are its camera application enhancements, the device gets charged better now, performance and
stability enhancements have been made. General improvements to WiFi, Calender and some other
applications have been made as well.
The update is on a slow roll out and will take some time to spread all around the world. But not all
Xperia enthusiasts will be able to calm themselves down and wait for this update through OTA or
through Sony PC Companion. In this case the only way to get this update on your device as soon as
possible is by flashing an official firmware using an FTF file through Sony Flashtool and that’s what
we are going to do in the proceeding guide. We will be flashing Android 4.4.4 KitKatbased on
the build number 10.5.A.0.283 on our beloved Sony Xperia Z C6602 and C6603.Let’s go through
early preparations and then flash this firmware.
Early Preparations:
1. This is only for Sony Xperia Z C6602 & C6603!
This ROM is only for the device mentioned above. Make sure that your model number matches the
one listed above. To do so, go to Settings > About Device on your device and see yourmodel
number. Flashing this firmware on any other device will result in bricking it so make surethat you
meet this requirement first of all.
2. Battery should be charged at least over 60%.
Make sure that your battery is charged enough to complete the flashing process. In case your
battery is low and your device goes dead during the flashing process, you may end up soft bricking
your device as it won’t complete the flashing process.
3. Backup everything!
Just to be on the safe side, you may consider backing up each and everything from your Android
device. This is highly recommended so that in case anything goes wrong, you still have the access
to all of your data and you can restore it immediately. You may backup everything as listed below.
Titanium Backup – If already rooted, use Titanium Backup to backup all of your apps, system
data and other important content.
Backup Nandroid – If CWM or TWRP installed previously, otherwise skip this step and
perform this at the end of flashing.
4. Enable USB Debugging Mode on your device.
Enable USB debugging mode on your device. To do so, tap settings>developer options>USB
debugging. If you can’t find developer options in settings, then tap settings > about device and tap
“Build Number” for 7 times and you’ll get em’ activated under settings.
4. Open Flashtool.exe now.
5. Hit the small lightening button on the top left corner and select Flashmode.
7. From the right side, select what do you want to wipe. Data, cache and apps log, all wipes are
recommended, perhaps you may select if you don’t want.
8. Click on OK, and it will start preparing the firmware for flashing. This may take a little while to
load.
9. As soon as the firmware is loaded, it will prompt you to attach the phone by turning it off and
keeping the back key press.
10. For Xperia Z, Volume Down key will do the job of back key, just turn off your phone, keep
the Volume Down key pressed and plug in the data cable.
11. As soon as the phone is detected in Flashmode, the firmware will start flashing, Do not leave
the Volume Down key until the process is complete.
12. As soon as you see “Flashing ended or Finished Flashing” leave the Volume Down key, plug
the cable out and reboot.
13. That’s All! Congrats! You’ve installed latest Android 4.4.4 kitkat on your Xperia Z. Enjoy
