How to Install Android 4.

4 KitKat on PC via
Android x86 ISO
Android has for long been restricted to smart phones and tablets, and is rightly
considered as the mobile operating system. However, the advent of unofficial
builds of Android designed exclusively for Intel's x86 hardware architecture with
the likes of Dell XPS12 has changed the platform game.

Windows desktop or laptop or PC users are no longer restricted to using one-

dimensional software and can indeed experiment with new open source software
such as Android 4.4 KitKat, thanks to the release of fully-blown Android-x86 OS
for PC.

Unlike the earlier builds, Android-x86 software extends support to numerous

hardware manufacturers including Dell with an easy to setup installation
procedure.

IBTimes UK reminds its readers that it will not be held liable for any damage to
device during or after Android-x86 software installation. Users are advised to
proceed at their own risk.
Prerequisites
1. Download the Android-x86 ISO file which is more appropriate for your
laptop, desktop or tablet model (check for model numbers with the
download links).
2. USB flash drive or a bootable CD/DVD drive
3. Ensure there is sufficiently free hard disk space on the computer/laptop on
which you want to install Android-x86 OS:
 For Froyo – ICS, 2GB
 For Jelly Bean 4.2 and 4.3, 8GB
 For KitKat 4.4.2, 10GB
Steps to Install Android 4.4 KitKat on Your PC
 Download the version of Android-x86 ISO that's suitable for your computer
hardware, and UNetbootin tool for flashing.
 Make a bootable USB drive with Unetbootin and the ISO image you
downloaded earlier. Just click on the Diskimage button (see screenshot
below) and select the ISO file you downloaded in step 1.
 Reboot the computer with USB drive as source by tweaking a couple of
settings in system BIOS. However, latest computers often default to USB
drive at boot time, whenever it's available.
 In the ensuing pop-up menu, select Install Android x86 to hard disk.
 Choose the partition where you wish to install Android x86. If you chose to
use a new partition, don't forget to format it right away.
 Allow the install process to continue (Choose Yes or confirm to continue),
as you are prompted to give permissions at various stages during GRUB
Boot loader installation. Do not click cancel at any stage, else the system
boot ROM might get corrupted.
 Now another prompt will ask your permission to perform system /r/w
(read/write operations). Just click Yes to continue.
 If you prefer to install ICS or earlier versions before KitKat, then you get
another prompt to install virtual SD card. You may use 1800 MB of hard
drive space as virtual SD card for flashing firmware. It is the maximum
space supported.
 Once the Android-x86 software is completely installed, reboot the
computer.
As this installation supports multiboot setup, you can switch between Windows or
Android at boot time, according to your taste.

Root Galaxy Note 3 on Android 4.3 Without

Tripping KNOX-Warranty Void Bit
Samsung Galaxy Note 3 users may be wary of tripping KNOX-Warranty void bit
while trying to root their devices with third-party software.

However, it is now possible to root Galaxy Note 3 without actually tripping KNOX-
warranty, but rather bypassing it with Root De La Vega (RDLV) rooting tool. The
RDLV is a joint creation of popular XDA developers, Designgears and Chainfire.

NOTE: The KNOX-Warranty void bit actually keeps track of the changes made to
stock firmware and sets a flag when any third-party software tries to manipulate
the stock settings and override the system permissions. In such situations, the
device's warranty status will become void, which will cease technical and
hardware support from Samsung.
Device Compatibility

Here is some great news, as RDLV rooting tool is supported on every Samsung
device with Knox security installed (excluding Exynos devices).

On the downside, those devices running PDA codes: MJ4, MJ7, MK1, MK2 or
higher may trip KNOX, even after rooting is successful.

Tip: Check your device PDA by dialling *#1234#.

Note: This method works only on devices running Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and
those running Android 4.4 will lose warranty as it will trip KNOX-warranty void bit.
IBTimes UK reminds its readers that it will not be held liable for any damage to
device during or after the root installation. Users are advised to proceed at their
own risk.
Pre-Requisites and Downloads Required
 Some basic Command Prompt (cmd) or terminal skills
 Cygwin (terminal with some UNIX commands): Download here
 Download Odin 3.09 and extract the zip file to obtain Odin 3.09.exe
 Download and install the latest USB drivers for Galaxy Note 3 from here
 Universal RDLV_0.5.7
 RDLV SD card file
 Download the phone's firmware from here
Note: Galaxy Note 3 devices running PDA versions: MJ4, MJ7, MK1 and MK2 will
not work with RDLV method, as they are the updated software versions with
patched Bootloader.
Steps to Root Galaxy Note 3 on Android 4.3 Without Tripping KNOX Warranty
1. Prepare your Phone

Go to Settings > General > About Phone and then tap on Build Number 7 times to
unlock the developer settings. Now return to general settings and enable 'USB
debugging' mode under Developer options.

2. Prepare your Computer

 Download the required files from the links given above and then install
Cygwin, Samsung KIES and Odin flash tool. Note: 32-bit version of Cygwin
can be used on 64-bit OS if the 64-bit version is not working.
 Go to SamMobile firmware page and download the correct version of
Android 4.3 Jelly Bean firmware based on your device's model number. As
the firmware file size is 2GB, it may take some time to download.
 Once the zip file is downloaded, extract the contents to a newly created
folder in C: or "C:/Note 3". Also, extract the Universal RDLV_0.5.7 file to the
same folder.
 Now, install Cygwin with default settings including all the packages (do not
uncheck any package). This installation requires active internet connection,
as the process will update all the packages automatically.
 Once Cygwin is installed, find the folder and double-click on "Cygwin.bat",
which should be located under "C:" if you did not change the path of
installation. This should bring up the command prompt or cmd terminal.
 Enter the following commands carefully as this is a critical step which is
error prone:
1. Type: "cd /cygdrive/c/Note3/" (without quotes) and hit enter.
2. Type: "./URDLV.sh full /cygdrive/c/Note3/" (without quotes) and hit enter.
3. Type: "./URDLV.sh full
/cygdrive/c/Note3/N9005XXUENB4_N9005DBTENB1_N9005XXUENB1_H
OME.tar.md5″(no quotes) and hit enter.
 If you have entered the path and firmware file name correctly, you should
see the following message:

 The process of flashing the firmware could be a bit time-consuming

especially on older computers. So, do not interrupt the process and leave
the computer alone for about 5 to 10 minutes.
 Once the Odin Flashable .tar image file is created, you should see the
"C:/Note3/output" folder with a message on screen.
 Ensure Odin v3.09 is installed along with Samsung KIES including USB
drivers for the phone on computer.
 Turn off the phone and launch Odin.exe on computer as administrator.
 Now boot the phone into Download mode by pressing and holding Volume
Down, Power and Home buttons together.
 When the phone enters Download mode, you will see a warning message
with yellow triangle on screen. Now, hit Volume Up to continue to next
screen.

 Start Odin on computer, after connecting your phone via USB cable to
computer. If USB drivers for the phone are installed correctly on computer,
Odin should recognise your phone and a blue status bar should appear in
the ID: COM box (top left corner of Odin).
 In Odin, click AP button and navigate to the location of firmware file which
was created earlier using Cygwin. The file should be accessible through
"C:Note 3output" and the filename should read something like:
"N9005XXUENB4_N9005DBTENB1_N9005XXUENB1_HOME_VEGA.tar.md5
"
 Note: The filename might change depending on the firmware build and
Note 3 model number. However, the filename can be identified with the
word "VEGA" at the end. As the firmware is already patched and includes
the RDLV files in it, we can root the phone without actually tripping the
KNOX security.
 Ensure Auto-Reboot and F.Rest Time options are selected. But, the re-
partition option must be unchecked. Leave all other options at their default
values.
 Now click Start in Odin and wait until the firmware installation completes.
It should barely take a few minutes to complete installing the software.
 Odin will automatically indicate "Reset" and your phone should reboot
automatically. The phone may take longer than normal to complete first
boot. Do not disconnect the USB cable yet.
 Now, open the second RDLV.zip file and extract its contents to the root
folder on your phone. You should now get two folders: "root_files" and
"root_de_la_vega.sh".
 Once the file extraction is complete, turn off your phone and Power it on
again. You may setup language and Google accounts settings for first use
and then delete the two folders ("root_files" and "root_de_la_vega.sh") you
copied earlier to the root folder of the phone.
 Reboot the phone for the final time and your device is now rooted. You can
download the root checker app from Google Play Store to verify if the root
installation is successful.
 Boot the phone into Download mode once again to confirm if Knox
warranty void and Knox Kernel lock are OxO and current binary reads:
"Samsung Official". If this is true, then you have successfully rooted the
device without tripping KNOX.

FlashTool version 0.9.18.1 allows you to download Xperia

firmware files
FlashTool is one of the most powerful tools for Sony Xperia devices and has been around since the
Xperia X10 days. The utility has been updated to version number 0.9.18.1, which brings a very
useful new feature – the ability to download the latest firmware files for your Sony Xperia device.

Once you have downloaded the latest version, simply head over to the Update Checker part of the
tool to select and download your firmware. In theory, this negates the need to use two tools
(XperiFirm and FlashTool) to create a FTF firmware file as detailed in our recent guide. See some
steps below in how to take advantage of this.

FlashTool 0.9.18.1 changelog

– Updated Java8 to u20

– Update checker can now download the checked version (Devices -> Updates … choose the device
… then double click on a table row
to get the latest version. Double click again to download. FTF bundler will open upon download)
– Towelroot hack implemented.

FlashTool (0.9.18.1) – Steps to download firmware

You can download the latest version of FlashTool from the link below.

DOWNLOAD: FlashTool (0.9.18.1) [Mirror]
To check firware on your handset, go to “Devices” > “Check Updates”
This will bring up the Device Selector for you to choose your mobile.

Now click on your phone variant which will load a list of customisation versions for various carriers
& regions. Click on the version to find out the latest firmware version.
Once you have chosen your firmware, you can start the download by double-clicking on the
firmware. The message at the bottom of the screen will then change to “Decrypting FileSets” and
then “Creating Bundle”.

This will then bring up the Bundler as seen in the screen below. Select all items on the left side of
the screen, move it to the right and then click “Create” which will then create a FTF firmware
file.

Installing and Configuring FlashTool for Xperia Devices
in Ubuuntu
I've been constantly switching between my two OSs, Win7 and Linux Mint for just
flashing a ROM to my Xperia device. And ofcourse, I hate being in Windows. So, I
found this nice little method to do the same in my Linux.
Credits go to these two pages:
http://duopetalflower.blogspot.com/2012/08/flashtool-in-ubuntu-linux.html
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2084266
1. First of all go to
http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php
and download the Linux version
2. Extract the 7z then the TAR somewhere and you find the directory FlashTool
3. Now some configuring, first of all you need a package called libusb. By the
time you might come to this post the lib may get upgraded so just use your head
to handle the scenarios a bit. First off, go to the site

http://libusbx.org
and download the latest tar.bz2 version.
4. Place it somewhere and cd into that directory
5. Type

sudo su
6. You're given root rights, type

tar xvf $(ls | grep "libusb")

This will extract the tar.bz2 file you've downloaded, considering that directory
has no other file whose name contains "libusb".
7. Now type

cd $(ls | grep "libusb")

and you'll be inside the extracted directory.
8. Type

$ sudo su
$ ./configure && make && make install && sudo ldconfig
9. Now type this command the configure some USB settings for Flashing
interface

sudo cp /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules /etc/udev/rules.d/80-

persistent-usb.rules
10. Open that newly created file in nano using

sudo vi /etc/udev/rules.d/80-persistent-usb.rules
11. Add these lines to the end of the document

SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ACTION=="add", SYSFS{idVendor}=="0fce",

SYSFS{idProduct}=="*", MODE="0777"
12. Most of the hard part is done, now just a final installation of the ia32-libs
using

sudo apt-get install ia32-libs

13. Now you're good to go just go to the directory where your Flash Tool
executable is and just type

./FlashTool

Update Sony Xperia Z C6602,C6603 To

Official Android 4.4.4 10.5.A.0.283 Firmware
September 9, 2014 · by Usama M · 45 Comments

The much awaited update for the very first Xperia Z device and its siblings, Android 4.4.4 KitKat is
finally here. Earlier today, Sony started rolling out Android 4.4.4 KitKat with the build number
10.5.A.0.283 to the Xperia Z users, the firmware is now listed on the official site of Sony as well. As
usual, the new update packs up so many enhancements. Atop is the Android 4.4.4 KitKat tag and
are its camera application enhancements, the device gets charged better now, performance and
stability enhancements have been made. General improvements to WiFi, Calender and some other
applications have been made as well.
The update is on a slow roll out and will take some time to spread all around the world. But not all
Xperia enthusiasts will be able to calm themselves down and wait for this update through OTA or
through Sony PC Companion. In this case the only way to get this update on your device as soon as
possible is by flashing an official firmware using an FTF file through Sony Flashtool and that’s what
we are going to do in the proceeding guide. We will be flashing Android 4.4.4 KitKatbased on
the build number 10.5.A.0.283 on our beloved Sony Xperia Z C6602 and C6603.Let’s go through
early preparations and then flash this firmware.

Early Preparations:
1. This is only for Sony Xperia Z C6602 & C6603!
This ROM is only for the device mentioned above. Make sure that your model number matches the
one listed above. To do so, go to Settings > About Device on your device and see yourmodel
number. Flashing this firmware on any other device will result in bricking it so make surethat you
meet this requirement first of all.
2. Battery should be charged at least over 60%.
Make sure that your battery is charged enough to complete the flashing process. In case your
battery is low and your device goes dead during the flashing process, you may end up soft bricking
your device as it won’t complete the flashing process.

3. Backup everything!
Just to be on the safe side, you may consider backing up each and everything from your Android
device. This is highly recommended so that in case anything goes wrong, you still have the access
to all of your data and you can restore it immediately. You may backup everything as listed below.

 Backup SMS Messages

 Backup Call Logs
 Backup Contacts

 Backup Media – Copy your files manually to your PC or Laptop.

 Titanium Backup – If already rooted, use Titanium Backup to backup all of your apps, system
data and other important content.
 Backup Nandroid – If CWM  or TWRP installed previously, otherwise skip this step and
perform this at the end of flashing.
4. Enable USB Debugging Mode on your device.
Enable USB debugging mode on your device. To do so, tap settings>developer options>USB
debugging. If you can’t find developer options in settings, then tap settings > about device and tap
“Build Number” for 7 times and you’ll get em’ activated under settings.

5. Install and setup Sony Flashtool.

You must have installed Sony Flashtool. Find the full guide here. After installing Sony Flashtool, open
the Flashtool folder from the drive where you installed it.Now open Flashtool>Drivers>Flashtool-
drivers.exe and install the Flashtool, Fastboot & Xperia Z drivers from the list. [Important]
6. Use OEM data cable to establish connection.
Make sure that you use the phone’s original data cable to establish connection between your phone
and the PC. Using a different data cable might result in interrupting the firmwareinstallation.

How to Install and Use Sony Flashtool on

Xperia Devices
October 29, 2013 · by Usama M · 146 Comments

Japanese manufacturer Sony’s Xperia line is going quite good and is being used by a number of

people, the Xperia series runs on Android (that is an open source operating system), as
thedevelopments are getting fast day by day on Android,  getting the latest mods, tweaks and modify
your Xperia device makes you even love it more.
Sometimes the users want to flash a new firmware in case of getting their device soft brick, or
sometimes just to improve the performance. While the OTA updates take a long time to reach
different regions, some of the users also look for a way to flash latest firmware on their devices
before it makes a way to their devices through OTA updates. Rooting the phone is another option
that allows the tinkering on device, flashing custom roms, kernels and a lot more things are there
that can be flashed in an Xperia device, but wondering how? Well, Sony has aFlashtool for
its Xperia line up.

Flashtool is a light software, that allows the flashing through ftf (flashtoolfirmwarefiles). It

becomes handy if you are struck somewhere. In today’s tutorial we will be having a look on the
detailed guide to use Flashtool.
As this is the main tutorial for Flashtool, we will be having a look on the method to flashfirmware in
an Xperia device.
Before we begin you need to download and install the following.
 Go ahead and download the Flashtool and install it – Download it
Here: Link 2

 You need to install Sony drivers, get the Sony PC Companion: Download it

Here.
 Mac users may download Sony Bridge: Get it Here.
Understanding & Using the Flashtool:
1. After you’ve downloaded and installed the Flashtool, you’ll get a folder
named”Flashtool” in your C: drive, or the drive which you selected while installation.
2. Here you can see the folders like Custom, Devices, Firmwares, Drivers.
3. The devices folder contains the supported devices, firmwares is the folder
where you will place the .ftf file to be flashed in your phone, while the drivers folders has
theFlashtool-drivers for all Xperia devices, you may install drivers through Flashtool in
case you face any difficulty at the time of flashing.
4. Access the Flashtool-drivers and install Fastboot & Flashmode drivers as

well first.

5. After the drivers have been installed, you’re good to go with Flashtool now.

The first thing you need to do is, you need to download your desired file, that you are going
to flash. It may be a firmware, a kernel or a root file, but it should be in .ftf
format.Download the file and place it in ‘‘Firmwares” folder that is is in Flashtool folder.

6. Run the Flashtool.exe now, access it from the installed programs or from the

same folder under drive C:.
7. In Flashtool, hit the lightening button on the top left, select whether you want
to runFlashmode or Fastboot mode. Flashmode is the one you’ll need most probably
while you’re trying to install an ftf file, select it and press Ok.

8. Select the firmware or the file that you want to flash here, and make the
otherselections accordingly, below is an image showing the procedure for a firmware’s
ftffile. After you’ve settled it up, hit the Flash button at the bottom now, it will start loading
the ftf file and show you
logs.
9. As soon as the file is loaded, you should see a pop up, prompting you to
connect your device to the PC in Flashmode.

10. Now, turn off your device, and connect to your PC using the
original data cable while keeping the Volume down key pressed. You should see
the Green LED on your device. This is for flashmode, in case you want to connect your
device infastboot mode, you need to connect it while keeping the Volume Up key pressed
and you should see the Blue LED now. For older Xperia devices, the back key will work
forFlashmode while the menu key will work for fastboot mode.

11. After you’ve connected your device successfully, the Flashing will start, wait
and sit back while the flashing gets completed. You should see the logs now, as soon as it
is done the ”flashing done” will appear at the bottom.
That’s All! We hope that the tutorial was easy for you to understand. Any difficulties or queries you
got? Feel free to leave us a comment, We will try our best to help you out.
