Formulation

Name FLUID FABRIC SOFTENER WITH 11% ACTIVE BASED ON STEPANTEX® VK-90
No. 1036
Description This fabric softener is for use in the rinse cycle of the wash load. It provides excellent softening and
static control while maintaining the rewet properties of the fabric.

Procedure Load Tap Water and Dye from Phase 1 into the reactor and bring them to 50ºC. While stirring, add
STEPANTEX® VK-90 at 50ºC (previously melted and mixed until homogeneous). Stir until the blend
(Tap Water and STEPANTEX® VK-90) is homogeneous and has a white, shiny, and smooth
appearance. Progressively add water from Phase 2 at 20ºC while agitating. Mix until homogeneous.
At 35ºC, add the Calcium Chloride solution. The blend (Tap Water, STEPANTEX® VK-90, and
Calcium Chloride) will become fluid quickly. Continue cooling and add Fragrance at 30ºC. Product is
ready to be packaged.

Properties pH, as is 3.0
Storage/ 1 month at 50ºC stable
Stability 2 months at 40ºC stable
Instructions Add 40 mL to the final rinse.

External The viscosity is about 36 mPa.s (viscometer Contraves TV2) and 44 mPa.s (Brookfield RVT M4/V100).
Comment The viscosity can be affected by the type and level of fragrance. Note: This operating procedure is
used when customers are not equipped with cool-down systems. Formulation is impacted by water
hardness.
