RC Assignment Specification

This document outlines the objectives, requirements and assessment of a reinforced concrete design project for students. The project aims to analyze and design a school structure using moment distribution methods and following Australian design standards. Students will work in groups to complete milestones including locating structural elements, analyzing beam loading, and designing beams, columns, and slabs. Their work will be assessed based on calculations, drawings, and a final report. The project accounts for 25% of the unit's final grade.

1.4 TASKS
1. Every group shall consist of 6 to 8 members in the same tutorial class.
2. Every group member is required to analyze and design one continuous beam. However
only one column to be designed per group.
3. All specific tasks are divided into milestones as shown in Table P5.
1.5 DRAWINGS
All architectural drawings showing the plans, elevations and detailed sections are shown in
Figure P1 to P6 (refer to Section 1.10).

1.6 DESIGN CRITERIA

1. The following criteria must be adhered to:
a) Concrete of 28 day strength f´c = 25 MPa shall be used for the whole design.
b) N reinforcing steel bar of 500 MPa yield strength shall be used as main bar, whereas
R round bar of 250 MPa yield strength shall be used as stirrup or ligatures.
c) All reinforced concrete shall be designed for a fire resistance period of 60 minutes
(Figure 5.4.1(B) of AS3600:2009).
d) The school is located at the Kuching City.
e) The slab and beam are to be designed for a deflection limit of 1/250 (Table 2.3.2 of
AS3600: 2009).
f) Use unit weight of brick of 19kN/m3 (AS1170.1, Table A2).
