Load Calculation
Load Calculation
INTRODUCTION
The analysis has been done using the structural analysis software STAAD Pro. A 3D model of
the structure has been prepared using the beam elements and a 3D FEM analysis has been
carried out for different types of loads and their combinations which are explained in the later
part of this report.
This document covers the design philosophy for Accommodation building . The column to
column spacing has been taken as per plan. The flooring system consists of slabs resting on
beams. All the walls has been considered 230 mm/115 mm thick as per Architectural
drawings.
Design of beam elements like columns, beam & foundation have been carried out by the
software STAAD Pro SS6 as according to IS 456:2000 (Limit State Design) which has been
explained in detail in the later part of this report.
The reinforcement in the beam & columns has been provided in accordance with the limits set
by the IS 13920:1993

3. DESIGN LOADS
Dead load of all structural elements based on their cross sectional area and the unit weights of
their constituting materials.
SIDL consists of the weight of all materials forming loads on the structure that are not part of
the structural elements.
As per the requirements, the following loads has been applied to the structure:
• Live load of 3.0 kN/m2, for Bedrooms as per IS875: Part-2.
• Live load of 4.0 kN/m2, for Corridors as per IS875: Part-2.
• Live load of 1.5 kN/m2, for Terrace as per IS875: Part-2.
• Live load of 0.75 kN/m2, for Mumty (Inaccessible roofs) as per IS875: Part-2.
3.4 Seismic Load
The seismic loads have been calculated, according to IS-1893 (Part -1), following the next
considerations:
The seismic response of the structure has been calculated using the STAAD Pro software,
considering as mass source the dead loads of the structure, and some portion of the Live loads
i.e. 0.25 as per the codal provisions.
The nomenclature and description of the specific load patterns used in the calculation model is
defined in STAAD Pro
4. DESIGN METHODOLOGY
Three dimensional frame analysis is carried out. The DL, SIDL & LL from the floor slab are
distributed to the beams as per CL: 24.5 of IS 456: 2000
All R.C.C structures shall be designed according to the Limit State Method as specified in IS:
456 – 2000. The analysis of the structures is carried out using the STAAD PRO software
package. Columns, slabs, Beams and foundations are designed as reinforced concrete
members.
Appropriate loads and its combinations, as per relevant clauses in IS codes, for most
unfavourable effects are chosen for design.
As Gurugram is in Zone III and IV, The frame is designed by response reduction method as
given in IS 1893(part 1): 2016.
The various loads shall be combined in accordance with the stipulations in Indian Standards.
Whichever combination produces the most unfavourable effect in the building, foundation or
structural member concerned shall be adopted.

As the Buildings height is less than 20m height in Zone IV of earthquake. Hence earthquake
forces shall govern over wind forces. Therefore, only seismic analysis has been performed.

4.5 Seismic Force Calculations
The earthquake forces are calculated for the full DL plus the percentage of LL as given in
Table 8 of IS 1893 (Part 1): 2002.
Following reduced live loads are used for analysis: Zero on terrace, and 25% of LL on other
floors are considered for the seismic weight calculation.
The static analysis method of analysis is performed and is done through assigning the dead
and live loads as Reference Loads and inputting the same in the seismic definition
