Digital Counseling Platform for Students

The Office of Student Affairs and Services at DEVCOM ENGLISH initiated an online platform for tele-counseling and health services to connect with students during the pandemic. The platform offers virtual counseling sessions through Zoom, Skype, and Google Classroom to help students struggling without quick ability to adapt to sudden changes. To use the counseling services, students must first complete an online intake interview and consent form, providing personal information confidentially. They can then schedule counseling appointments online, selecting convenient times and communication methods. This digital adaptation is essential for providing counseling support to those in need, showing progress can be made even during difficult times.

DIGITALIZING COUNSELING: Making headways despite sinking hopes

The Guidance and Testing Office section of the Office of Student Affairs and Services
(OSAS) initiated an online platform for health services and tele-counseling.

Mental health has emerged as an important public health concern at the height of crisis
facing us today. With a high proportion of students and adolescents affected by sudden
changes – without quick ability to adapt – it is important to ensure that they are provided
with proper care and attention.

The platform, accessible every Mondays to Fridays, intends to connect to and

communicate with innately-challenged students and other University stakeholders.

Acclimatizing the digital world, counseling sessions are offered virtually thru Zoom,
Skype, and Google classroom, among others. But, prior to the terms, one must
accomplish the counseling intake interview that was made available online linked in
Google forms. However, the office section guaranteed audiences’ information with
utmost confidentiality.

By clicking the link, one must be given an informed consent as a preliminary allowance
to the office section to include his/her responses for data analysis and research
purposes.

Then, the purpose of the form must be clearly stated, that is, to gather information about
someone which would be helpful in backing-up adjustment in the University.

Formally commencing the filling-up of blank spaces, there must be some few short
requirements for personal information; then, family systems information with an
addendum of questions for married students; then, family background information; some
recreational and vocational questions; work history; and counseling information that
includes a checklist of emotional, mental and physical challenges.

With all that being complied with, one must proceed to the personal agreement page.
Choices of ‘I agree’ and ‘I disagree’ are present of which only one must be satisfied.

After an agreement of one’s self, here comes the message of the University Guidance
Counselor – he who values a person in need of care. The last page, counseling
appointment, enables someone to pick a convenient time, a specific date, a channel of
communication, and even a special request for the counseling session.

This crucial adaptation is indeed essential for people who need someone to talk to; an
opportunity to lend ears to persons in need of care and empathy. This is a proof that,
somehow, we are making headways in spite of our sinking hopes.
