Everyone says high school flies by. From hanging out with friends, to playing sports,
high school felt like a few days. It’s crazy that I am a senior and in a few months I hope to
receive my diploma, and beginning the next chapter of my life. As a senior, looking back,
Covenant Christian high school is a special place. As a kid I wanted to play basketball at
covenant. I was given the privilege of playing basketball at Covenant, and received excellent
advice from my coaches.. They pushed me to the best of my abilities. They also taught us so
many life lessons, like to never give up, and that with teamwork you can accomplish anything.
Sophomore year I was on JV and we were playing against Grand Rapids Catholic Central. We
started out the game so slow and could not make a shot. At halftime we were down by twenty.
Coach Pastoor told us to not back down, and even though we were down, the game was not
done. I remember that he played the same 5 players the whole half. We kept making threes and
worked together to play great defense. Towards the end we were gassed. We were all bending
over gasping for breath. We ended up losing the game by one point. This game showed me how
special of an experience it was to be part of a team that was close, and I am so thankful that
CCHS was also very memorable. From freshman orientation to starting my last semester
here I have so many memories. From walking and talking in the halls. To the teachers telling

stories and jokes, this place brought so many memories. Homecoming was one of my favorite
weeks of the school year. My favorite part of homecoming was the competition weather that be
with the costumes or in the games. The gym was so loud and everyone was screaming. The
atmosphere was so fun and I am so happy that CCHS was able to give me this experience.
CCHS was a place that gave me motivation. Whether that be to get good grades or give
encouraging words. The whole atmosphere shaped me to be a better person all around. Early on I
began to see why my grades mattered and started to put effort into them. Mr Havemen was the
biggest influence in my grades with every meeting starting out with “you only get one shot at
this,” or “please don't be the senior crying in my office in three years wishing they had tried
harder early on.” These words have motivated me to do my best in all things.
CCHS has been a place that was so special and full of memories. I am so thankful for the
teachers that have motivated me through high school. CCHS will always have a place in my
