Probability

The document contains 6 exercise sets that involve probability problems of various scenarios: 1) The first set defines probability terms and asks the reader to write sample spaces for experiments like selecting children from a group and rolling dice. 2) The second set calculates probabilities of coin tosses, die rolls, and other games of chance. 3) The third set involves finding probabilities based on existing probability values and determining complementary events. 4) The fourth set uses combinations to calculate probabilities of drawing certain cards or balls from groups. 5) The fifth set continues practicing probability calculations, including finding probabilities when events are or are not mutually exclusive. 6) The sixth set is unlabeled but provides another list

Exercise Set 1

1) Define the following terms:

Random Experiment, Sample Space, Event, Occurrence of Event, Equally
Likely Event, Mutually Exclusive event, Complementary event, Composite
Event, Compound Event, Exhaustive Event.
2) Two childrens are to be selected from a group of 3boys and 2 girls. Write
associated sample space associated with this experiment.
3) Write the sample space of the experiment of getting 10 when two die are tossed.
4) Three coins are tossed simultaneously.
a) Write associated sample space.
b) Write the event of getting three heads.
c) Write the event of getting at least two heads.

Exercise Set 2

1. Find the probability of getting a head when a coin is tossed.

2. What is the chance of throwing a 5 with an ordinary die?
3. What is the chance of getting a number greater than 3 with an ordinary die?
4. Find the probability of throwing a sum of 7 in a single throw of two dice.
5. Two coins are tossed together. Find the probability of heads on both the sides.
6. What is the chance that a leap year, selected at random, will contain 53 Sundays?
7. A card is drawn from an ordinary pack and a gambler bets that it is a spade or an
ace. What are the odds against this winning this bet?
8. In a class of 52 students 5 are boys and the rest are girls. Find the probability that
a student selected will be a girl.
9. Find the chance that if a card is drawn at random from an ordinary pack, it is one
of the court cards.
10. Find the chance 0f drawing a face card is drawn at random from an ordinary pack
of card.
