History is the study of past events. People know what happened in the
past by looking at things from the past including sources (like books,
newspapers, and letters) and artifacts (like pottery, tools, and human or
animal remains.). A person who studies history is called a historian.
For me a point in history I love to go back to as a journalist is when
there is no technology. The everyday lives of people have changed a great
deal due to the advent of technology. They have become easier, faster, more
comfortable and dynamic. But, at the same time, our lives have become
lethargic, preposterous and anti-social just like the computers that have
become a part and parcel of our lives. The technology has enriched our lives
and enlightened our minds, but in pursuit of its cozy comforts, people tend
to be over-reliant on it, so much that they can’t even imagine living without
it. This pointless obsession and abuse of technology in our lives has left us
vulnerable and weak. No doubt, the advancements brought us
unprecedented physical, medical and other benefits, but this over-reliance
will prove costly for the survival of the human race.
It would be illogical to believe that we should abandon technology,
because in many cases, it will be the difference for a better tomorrow. As a
result of the pursuit of better quality of life, some dependence on technology
is unavoidable because we would all like to have clean running water,
healthy diet, and protection from terrible diseases, provision of power and
different electronic tools for our businesses as well as other material
comforts and amenities in our lives. Technology especially in the face of
rapidly increasing population helps us in utilizing the Earth’s resources
more efficiently. But on the other hand there are negative effects of
technology lingering in our lives. By neglecting basic human and
mammalian instincts like socializing, family life and physical exertion, we
have become artificial and hollow. Although we are reaping benefits, we are
losing the little of the precious humanity left in our lives due to over-
indulgence.
Because of social media and mobile devices may lead to psychological
and physical issues, such as eyestrain and difficulty focusing on important
tasks. They may also contribute to more serious health conditions, such as
depression. The overuse of technology may have a more significant impact
on developing children and teenagers.
In conclusion, technology has affected our lives deeply. We simply
cannot imagine living without it. It has increased our lifespan and quality of
living. It has brought us closer to each other in certain ways and drifted
away in others. Without it, our lives would have been simpler, harder,
poorer, isolated, unimaginative, disconnected and dangerous.
This photo of mine symbolizes my love to our environment. This was
my favorite photo that I’ve posted in my social media. This photo reminds
me of how environment is very beautiful if we do our responsibility to take
care of it. I've been thinking more about my environmental impact. And the
individual obligation we have to take care of this planet, our collective home.
Nobody owns the title to Earth. Doing something for our environment was
really fun and heartwarming. Choosing to recycle, limit your waste, or keep
the oceans clean may not provide you with immediate gratifications, but
they reflect a higher ideal. A belief that what we do matters. That our
decisions have consequences. That we can be agents of good or bad. That we
remain connected throughout generations by the actions we take
throughout our own. And that, even though you or I may not benefit from
clean air and water 100 years from now, others should.
As stewards of the earth, as the highest form of life on this planet, we
must treat the land with respect. And accept the responsibility we have been
given to care for it. When we don’t pay attention, when we say, "what can I
do or how am I personally harming the earth?", we are shunning
responsibility. Which leaks into other areas of our lives.
I think about environmental responsibility as a frame of mind. It's
about paying attention. About not putting off for tomorrow what I can do
today. And not waiting for disaster to take action. It's about being awake,
purposeful, and proactive in everything we do.
When we shun our environment, we shun our responsibility to each
other and the world we share. It would be hard to think of something we
share more than the air we breathe and the water we drink. By caring for
our environment, not only are we protecting our planet for today, we are also
protecting it for our children and modeling for them that "community"
transcends neighborhood, city, and state. We are one world, one
community, and how we treat our share planet is a reflection of how we
treat our fellow man and the generations to come. What small act can you
commit to this week that will make a positive impact on our environment?
