Peer groups are important for socialization as they influence individuals through reinforcement and encouragement according to social learning theory. Being part of a peer group provides models for how to react socially. The individual also learns how to form their self-identity based on what group they belong to. The document describes a personal example of experiencing a self-fulfilling prophecy. When the individual received a grade that did not qualify them as an honor student, they prayed and had faith that a miracle could still allow them to achieve honor status. Ultimately their grade changed to meet the requirement. Role strain was experienced as a student who had to learn and accomplish projects, but also be a friend to classmates. UNDERSTANDING THE SELF

LESSON 2 ACTIVITY 1

Answer the following questions briefly. Use the idea of proponents discussed above.

1. How important are peer groups to socialization? In what ways do they influence individuals

throughout the life course?

Peer group is both a social group and a primary group of people who have similar interests, age,

background, or social status. According to the Social learning theory of Albert Bandura that behavior

and attitudes develop in response to reinforcement and encouragement from people around us so

that the members of the group are likely to influence the person's behavior and belief. Being in a

group of peers is important in socialization because you have a model or you see your co-peer on

how they are reacting in a social group so that you have an idea on how also to react in

circumstances. They influence individuals thru learning process and the formation of self that

learned response to social stimuli. It is important to know in what group are we really belong so that

we also know what our ideal self.

2. Have you ever observed someone experiencing a self-fulfilling prophecy? Explain. If you

have not personally observed this, use an example from the media, books, movies, or TV.

I have experience self-fulfilling prophecy. When I was in grade 11 one of my prof show us our grade

in his subject individually and I am very sad on my grades because it is not qualified to the

requirements of Honor student. The thing that I have do is to listen in Christian's song and accept the

fact that I am no longer an honor student. I prayed to God that if it is really his plan for me, I know

that I have a better future and I surrendered all my fears to him and I prayed and believe that miracle

will happen. The day has come, the distribution of Report card was come. I just look at it with full

hope and thanks God he never failed to surprise me. I saw my grade in a particular subject met the

grade requirement for honor student. This is a prophecy of my churchmate, she almost died because

of her conditions, her life already has a limit but because of her faith, she died for about 3 days but

miracle had come. She became alive with no sick and she has a conversation with the Lord that she

needs to serve the Lord. After she knew the Lord, after she worship God for a week She died. God
gives her an opportunity to accept God as her savior, as the way, as the truth and as the life.

3. Have you ever experienced role strain or role conflict? Describe the different roles and

how they were strained or conflicted. How did you resolve this?

Yes, me as a student who need to learn from school and friend to my classmate who need to have a

time for them. Whenever we have a group activity or performance and need to have a practice. Me

as a student I am doing my role as a student that need to accomplish the project in time and it is

conflicted because sometimes really difficult to accomplish since I am with my friends/classmates

and we consume our time talking about each other's life. My solution for this is that I set a time

wherein we are free to talk about matter that is not related to the project so that we can accomplish

the task in appropriate time and at the same time we are enjoying the moment.
