ACTIVITY PROPOSAL
I. TITLE: Strengthening Sustainable Gulayan sa Paaralan Program
V. RATIONALE:
Joaquin Smith National High School is a former annex of Pines City National
High School. It was officially separated from its mother school by virtue of RA 9893 in
December 31, 2009. As compared to other schools in the City of Baguio, Joaquin Smith
National High School has a land area of more or less 12000 square meters where some
of its portions are viable for gardening.
Ten years ago, the Department of Education established and implemented the
Gulayan sa Paaralan program, wherein one of its aims is to promote vegetable
production and the proceeds are used for the feeding program of the school-(DepEd
Memo No. 293, s. 2007). However, Joaquin Smith NHS encountered many problems for
the implementation and sustainability of the program which include stray animals,
weather conditions, lack of gardening tools, inactive involvement of stakeholders and
others.
To address some of these problems, the school administrator and the Gulayan
sa Paaralan Program Committee are coming up with a series of activities to encourage
active participation of different stakeholders for the realization of Gulayan sa Paaralan
Program objectives.
VI. OBJECTIVES:
a. General Objective.
1. To strengthen the sustainability of Gulayan sa Paaralan program in
school to decrease cases of malnutrition of learners.
b. Specific Objectives:
1. To increase vegetable production to supplement the feeding program.
2. Gardens will serve as laboratory/practicum area for TLE exploratory
classes.
3. To encourage teachers and learners in producing organic vegetables
and practice urban gardening.
