and Its Application
Introductory Message
This Contextualized Learning Module (CLM) is prepared so that you, our dear
learners, can continue your studies and learn while at home. Activities, questions,
directions, exercises, and discussions are carefully stated for you to understand each
lesson with ease.

This CLM is composed of different parts. Each part shall guide you step-by-
step as you discover and understand the lesson prepared for you.

Pre-test is provided to measure your prior knowledge on the lesson. This will
show you if you need to proceed in completing this module or if you need to ask your
facilitator or your teacher’s assistance for better understanding of the lesson. At the
end of this module, you need to answer the post-test to self-check your learning.
Answer keys are provided for all activities and tests. We trust that you will be honest
in using them.

In addition to the material in the main text, Notes to the Teacher is also
provided to our facilitators and parents for strategies and reminders on how they can
best help you in your home-based learning.
Please use this module with care. Do not put unnecessary marks on any part
of this CLM. Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the exercises and tests.
Likewise, read the instructions carefully before performing each task.

If you have any question in using this CLM or any difficulty in answering the
tasks in this module, do not hesitate to consult your teacher or facilitator.
Thank you.

Lesson
Application of Triangle
1 Congruence

Hello everyone! How do you find solving

congruent triangles? It’s so basic, right?

Well, let’s have more fun in

exploring the application of
triangle congruence. I hope you
will enjoy it. God bless.

What I Know

Direction: Problem Solving: Analyze the given situation below and do what
is required.

Given: Line PR is perpendicular bisector of line AB. Q, S and T lie on line PR.
Problem: If AT = 3x, BT = 2x + 2, PA = 3y – 1, and PB = y + 5, find the perimeter
of ATBP. Each of Xylie, Marie, Angel and Chloe was a given a chance to solve
the problem given by the teacher which shown above. After several minutes,
they arrived at a certain answer as follows: Xylie – 22 units, Marie – 24 units,
Angel – 26 units and Chloe – 28 units. Who among them got the correct
answer? Justify your answer by showing a complete solution.

3
What’s In

1. What do you call the congruent sides of an isosceles triangle? How about
its third side?
2. What is the relationship of the base angles of an isosceles triangle?
3. What do you call the angle included by the legs of an isosceles triangle?

What’s New

Direction: Proving Activity. Complete the missing parts of the proof to

answer the question below:
Consider ∆TMY, with TM congruent to TY.
Is ∠M ≅ ∠Y?

You made it! Always remember the

Isosceles Triangle Theorem which states
that: If two sides of a triangle are
congruent, then the angles opposite these
sides are congruent.

4
What is It

A. Applying Isosceles Triangle Theorem

Example 1. From ∆ 𝑆𝑈𝑁, if ∠S = (5 x + 20)° and ∠N = (9x)°, what is the measure
of ∠N?
U

S N
D

Solutions:

∠S ≅ ∠N Base angles of Isosceles Triangle are ≅.

5 x + 20 = 9x Substitute
5x + (-5x) + 20 = 9x + (-5x) Addition Property of Equality
20 = 4x Addition of Algebraic Expression
x=5 Multiplication Property of Equality

Since x = 5, then
m∠N = 9x
= 9(5) Substitute
= 45 Multiply

Answer: The measure of ∠N is 45°.

Example 2. From ∆ 𝑅𝐸𝐷, if RE = 5x and DE = 3x + 8, what is the measure of

side RE?

R D
C

5
Solutions:

RE ≅ DE Converse of Isosceles Triangle Theorem

5 x = 3x + 8 Substitute
5x + (-3x) = 3x + (-3x) + 8 Addition Property of Equality
2x = 8 Addition of Algebraic Expression
x=4 Multiplication Property of Equality
Since x = 4, then
RE = 5x
= 5(4) Substitute
= 20 Multiply

Answer: The measure of side RE is 20 units.

Remember that the converse of Isosceles Triangle Theorem states that: If two angles of
a triangle are congruent, then the sides opposite these angles are congruent.

A. Angle Bisector and Perpendicular Bisector

Example 1. From ∠ABC, BD bisects ∠ABC and G lies on BD, if GE

= 3x + 12 and GF = 5x, what is the measure of GE?

Solutions:
GE ≅ GF Theorem on Angle Bisector
3x + 12 = 5x Substitute
3x + (-3x) + 12= 5x + (-3x) Addition Property of Equality
12 = 2x Addition of Algebraic Expression
x=6 Multiplication Property of Equality

Since x = 6, then
GE = 3x + 12
= 3(6) + 12 Substitute
= 18 + 12 Multiply
= 30 Add

Answer: The measure of side GE is 30 units.

6
Take note of this theorem: A point on the bisector of
an angle is equidistant from the sides of the angle.

Example 2. From ∆ 𝑃𝐴𝐵, AP = BP and AC = BC, if AD = 3y + 4 and BD =

5y – 10, what is the measure of side BD?

Solutions:
AD ≅ BD Theorem on Perpendicular Bisector
3y + 4 = 5y – 10 Substitute
3y + (-3y) + 4= 5y + (-3y) - 10 Addition Property of Equality
4 = 2y - 10 Addition of Algebraic Expression
4 + 10 = 2y – 10 + 10 Addition Property of Equality
14 = 2y Addition of Algebraic Expression
y=7 Multiplication Property of Equality
Since y = 7, then
BD = 5y - 10
= 5(7) - 10 Substitute
= 35 - 10 Multiply
= 25 Subtract

Answer: The measure of side BD is 25 units.

Ponder upon this theorem: If a line contains two points each

of which is equidistant from the endpoints of a segment, then
the line is the perpendicular bisector of the segment.

You must remember also that a point on the

perpendicular bisector of a segment is
equidistant from the endpoint of a segment.
