I. Interview of An Architecture Student
Intro
Hello everyone! Thank you for being here today. Here with me is my partner, Rodrigo Najarro. Today we
will be interviewing Ms. Brittany Gabutina, an Architecture student from LCC Bacolod. Let’s start this
interview by getting to know our interviewee. So, Brittany, can you tell us about yourself?
Question #2: Why did you study architecture? What inspires you to become an architect?
Back when I was in elementary siguro. I love to build things like my own house out of boxes tapos daw
mini house na sa gali like mga barbie house, amo na sa. I like to make mga furnitures mga fixtures amo
na tapos na realize sa mother ko nga I really like to make things; I really like to build things. Then she
gave me this very thick book. This book was filled with houses and plans inside and I was very curious
about the plans because na realize ko nga each plan may house design. So, gin practice and copy ko ang
drawings So amo na sa ang start ngaa I would love to study architecture. And what inspires me is because
my 2nd cousin is also an architect gin ukay ko iya stuff then Nakita sa iya mga gamits, sa iya mga works,
sya ang na ka inspire sa akon so amo to I decided to take architecture course
Question #5: What are the challenges you have encountered as a student?
Para sa akon, this school year my life now is like a working student now that I managing my own cafe.
Doing business at the same time studying is a challenge for me especially. It is a good challenge because I
get to experience pano namon gin build ang kapehan I also fill up some files I didn’t know that we have
like building permits a until nag gwa ni sang aton ya subject p.pract. I realize na it’s not just about
designing we also have to provide services in the connection of the design.
Question #7: We all know that this corona virus that we are currently facing appeared out of nowhere and
affected everything. As an architecture student, what problem/challenges have you faced throughout this
pandemic and what have you learned from it?
When online classes started back when we were in our 2nd year, ga problema gid ko sa ,Wi-Fi
connection amo na ang first challenge na faced ko. Tapos, im also not good in using laptops at that time
because sa 1st and 2st year ta, ga manual ta dba, so amo na. Pero may na learn man ko, gin practice ko
lang pag gamit sa mga gadgets, kung pano ko ubrahon sa internet, pano mag search. Just practice. Until
now ga practice man ko japon sac add kag sketchup.
Question #8: In this unexpected switching to online classes due to the corona virus outbreak. As an
architecture student, do you think it makes a lot of difference in what is happening compared to the face
to face setting?
One of the first things I noticed that is different from a face to face setting is that you can attend your
class wherever you go, because everywhere is your classroom dba. kung ma kadto ka sa restaurant pwedi
na imo classroom, kung ma kadto ka sa house sa imo friend, pwedi mon a ma classroom, so amo na akn
na notice. But what I noticed is that mas lower ang learnings now that we are just doing online classes.
With just one click it is easier for us to get answers in the internet than challenging ourselves to create our
own.
Question #9: What are the things about yourself wish to improve in order to finish your course and
become a better architect someday?
Para sa akon, To read more siguro, because for me being an architect is not more than just drawing and
building. It involves knowledge of math, science, physics, especially mga laws and most importantly the
ability to design. So I want to improve my reading and doing research. Mostly I just watch videos and just
listen.
Question #10: What is/are the challenges do you think most architects are facing today?
Im not sure if this is correct pero na kita ko man ni kay sa youtube kay Oliver, architect Oliver. kay One
of it Arguing for good design over cheap construction. Na experience ko man ni when we were building
our kapehan because I designed it and it was also approved by the architect. Namian man ang mga perents
ko tita ko. Pero when we started finding the right materials, mostly sakon design damo gid changes
namangkot mn ko sa ila ngaa gin change mostly design ko hambal sa ila. Dw ka impossible kuno so I was
a little bit hurt at that time. When rod and I talked about this already, and we also have the same
experience. So I think amo ni sa ang challenge most architecture are facing.
Para sakon it is about the advancement of architecture, the standards of training and practice. Pra mka
provide ta high standards of service to bring a high level of selfless dedication to the work done on behalf
of the clients amo na para sakon.
Question #12: Is/are there any advice you want to give for your future self ?
Para sakon I have to really read more kay I know taking this course indi basta basta lang. amo ni sa akon
ya weakness. Kung ano imo weakness you have to face it, para sa imo future.
Question #13: What advice do you want to give for future architecture students?
Kung ano imo weakness you have to face it, kung you’re not confident in speaking in public, you have to
face it and practice. So, in the futre, ma gamit mo na.
