- Antenna Control Unit (ACU) is a device that enables crew can check necessary information, such
as VSAT Signal and vessel’s heading. It provides necessary information for troubleshoot.
II. iDirect Modem

- This device converts analog signals from Antenna into Digital signals, which is required for VSAT
registration.
III. IPSignature4 (SmartBox)

- Smart box equipment that controls the network and PBX equipment by separating the Business
and Crew networks.
IV. PBX Box : Equipment required for IP Phone Registration and Management
V. Business HUB: Equipment connects to Captain PC and DID Phones

3. How to check Intellian ACU Status

You can check VSAT status on LCD screen of Intellian ACU.

I. LED Indicator
POWER, TRACKING, ERROR on left side.
Normal Status

- POWER, TRACKING : Static Green light

Abnormal Status

- If ERROR led shows red, it means that VSAT Antenna has a problem.

II. Check LCD Screen

① ② ③

① Tracking : Antenna has locked onto the target satellite

Searching : Antenna has been lost signal by structure and trying to find proper satellite
Blocking : Antenna is facing to Radar mast so VSAT signal has been lost.

② Satellite information -> Please check 7 Page.

③ SIG : Antenna Signal Strength, Sig has to show more than 60.

④ AZ, EL : Antenna Angle information

III. ACU, Press > button and information in LCD will be changed as below.

① ②

① GPS : Confirm if vessel’s current location is same as LCD Screen.

If the information is different with actual value, VSAT signal might be weak and it will be a
problem.

② HDG : Confirm vessel’s heading is same as LCD screen. If it’s different with actual value, VSAT
will be in out of service.
VSAT signal may be dropped during GYRO inspection and GYRO equipment’s recycle session.
In this case, if VSAT finds a normal signal, it will be automatically activated.

II. Blockage changes depending on the vessel position and the heading.

⚫ Please note the below information is based on Figure 1 and Figure 2.

Figure 3 Example of Blockage which affect by location and heading

III. If the antenna is installed as shown in Figure 1, Blockage appears between heading 90 to 110 degrees in
above circled area.

IV. The satellite, Rader mast, and VSAT Antenna are placed in a straight line, which may cause the radar
mast to block the satellite signal.

Figure 4 Example of Blockage which affect by location and heading

V. The upper area may also have a Blockage through the radar mast between 110 and 160 degrees.
