1) Social scientists refer to history in analyzing current situations and behaviors because lessons from the past can provide insights. For example, history shows how past pandemics like the Spanish Flu were controlled, informing modern pandemic responses. 2) To obtain an accurate narration of past events from different primary sources, historians must carefully interpret sources, recognize how interpretations change over time, and ensure claims are supported by solid evidence. Reconciling discrepancies between sources requires diligent research. 3) Gathering accurate information about history from various materials and sources is challenging but important for understanding our world. Historians must be dedicated researchers who critically evaluate sources and can substantiate their findings with proper basis and evidence.

Why do social scientists refer to history in analyzing or predicting a certain

situation or a particular behavior?

According to Calderon and Gonzales (1993), The word history means the search
for knowledge and truth, it is also any integrated narrative or description of past events
or facts written in a spirit of critical inquiry for the whole truth.

I do believe that as a social scientist, it is their responsibility to study all the

aspects of our society. They are the ones who study about the institutions like our
government, the economy, and family, they also study how individuals and groups
interact with one another and what drives human behavior. Moreover, I think that social
scientist used or refer to history in analyzing or predicting a certain situation because
this will serve as the representation of the word lesson from our past. Like for example
this global health crisis of COVID-19. Way back then, there is also a global health
pandemic that hits millions of people from around the world, such as Spanish Flu,
Bubonic Plague and Influenza. This situation from the history has taught us how to
control a surge of a pandemic. Since we are on a modern world, we can produce a lot of
protection that will help us to avoid getting infected and one of the major examples is
the creation of our vaccines, because way back then there is no modern equipment to
help the surge of diseases. This reminds me of how the history is very important and
relevant even up to this day. Furthermore, it also shows that referring to history will help
us to relate nor improve a certain situation or aspect especially when we are new to a
specific field. I believe those are some of the reasons why the social scientist refers
from the history such as to learn, discover, reapply and relate.

All in all, I realized that history is very important and relevant even if we are in a
modern world situation. I learned its purpose and capabilities even if other says that
history must be burned because it’s the past and instead focusing to the past we must
focus to the new beginnings, but for me History is what makes us human, our identity,
our first stepping stone and foundation. That’s why I really value every detailed of our
history.

Primary source has been regarded as the source of the “best evidence” but when
many eyewitnesses supply information discrepancies and contradictions emerged, what
do you think is the best solution to have accurate and exact narration of events coming
from different sources.

For me as a student who always look up for a legit and accurate information
about my assignment and tasks, I always look up the best book I have and to the
different sites on internet, but in the internet, there are lots of misinformation so I always
observe, double checked and find a most trustworthy sources so that I can easily cope
up and relate prior to the lesson. Just like in knowing our history, researchers or
historians has a big challenge to address upon knowing the right information on a
particular thing. They must have a legit source with proper basis and evidence so that
they might confirm that those information’s they gathered is legit and authentic.

As we all know a primary source is one of the most useful elements or sources of
the historians in gathering an information or evidence from our past or history. I do
believe that in order for us to know what is the best solution upon having an accurate
and exact narration of events coming from different sources is by being a good
researcher by knowing the process of interpretation, recognizing how and why these
interpretations change over the time and having a proper evidence to help that those
claims is authentic and legit. Moreover, narrating this kind of events is a long process
and challenging one. I know it is hard to gather information’s, ideas and evidences from
different materials, places and people. But after you work on it with passion, dedication
and pride you must say that it’s all worth it because learning our history will develop our
understanding to the deep meaning of our world.

To conclude this topic, I must say that in order for us to succeed in gathering or
finding a right information on a particular situation. I believe we must possess those
qualities mentioned above because knowing history is not just reading and knowing it’s
content, it is a long process that needs a proper basis and accurate evidence.
