Lakme is an Indian cosmetics brand which is owned
by Hindustan Unilever. It also has various brand
ambassador. Lakme ranked at number 1st among the
cosmetics brands in India to introduction makeup to
Indian beauty for over 50 years
Lakme started as a 100% subsidiary of Tata Oil Mills
(TOMCO). It was named after the French opera lakme.
It was started in 1952 famously, because the Prime
Minister Jawaharlal Nehru was concerned that Indian
women were spending precious foreign exchange on
beauty products & personally requested JRD Tata to
manufacture them in India
“Lakme is the Indian women’s beauty Sutra” –
inspiring expression of her unique beauty & sensuality.
Lakme brings expert products & service that are borne
out of true understanding of the needs of the Indian
women. It is a complete beauty brand spanning colour
cosmetics & skin care & extending to beauty service
through the network of lakme beauty salons.

Lakme was launched in 1952 (62 years ago).


Lakme is an Indian cosmetics brand.
Lakme is derived from Hindu goddess Lakshmi.
Lakme’s CEO is Pushkaraj Shenai (Oct 2012).
Lakme is in French language.
Founder of lakme is J.R.D Tata Simone.
Lakme is owned by Hindustan unilever.
Lakme introduced nail polish & lipsticks from 80’s.
Lakme introduced skin care products from 1987.
In 2014 lakme was ranked 36st among India’s most
trusted brands according to Brand trust report.
Lakme provides cosmetics, beauty products & salon
services.
In 1996 Tata sold off their stakes in lakme lever to
HUI for rs 2 crore

Within a short last 5 years, the use of cosmetics by
Indian Consumers has increased signicantly with more
& more women & men taking greater interest in
personal grooming, increasing disposable incomes
changing lifestyle influence of satellite television &
greater products choice & availability.
This cosmetics & personal care industry has been
growing at an average rate of 20 percent for the last
few years. The growth rate in the cosmetics market
reflect an increasing demand for beauty care products
in India

Beauty is skin deep & sure enough lakme


understand it like no one does. Today brand of lakme
stand strong as one of the 100 most powerful brands &
right fully so. Its brand that lights up the face of million
girl’s every day.
It’s brand that inspire, motivate & infuses
confidence colour, shades, brushes & tones to beautify,
have been the core attribute of the products. The
challenge which was cosmetics industry has to break
was the negative connotations of “being fashionable” In
the following project we basically seeks to provide
