_______ September 27,2021 Page 1 of 6
Objectives:
Learners should be able to:
1. Describe the changes in materials based on the effect of temperature (Liquid
to Solid, Liquid to Gas & Gas to Liquid).
Vocabulary Words:
We can change a solid into a liquid or gas by changing its temperature. This is
known as changing its state. Water is a liquid at room temperature, but becomes
a solid (called ice) if it is cooled down. The same water turns into a gas (called
water vapor) if it is heated up.
Freezing is the physical change of liquid matter to solid. Freezing is the process of
changing a liquid object into a solid object.
For Example:
When you put a water inside your refrigerator, the water that
becoming ice is an example of the freezing process. Water is a liquid which turns
into ice which is a solid.
For Example:
In your house, when your mother boils water in the
casserole. The steam is release when the water is boiling
inside the casserole.
For Example:
When you put cold water in the drinking glass. When
warm air hits the cold surface of the glass it is cooled and
changes to water droplets. Condensation produces
water droplets outside a glass of cold water.
Activity 1: Directions: Read and understand the statement carefully, then write
the word TRUE if the statement is correct and write the word FALSE if the statement
is wrong.
______________1. Evaporation will occur if the liquid turns into gas.
______________2. Freezing is the physical change of liquid matter to gas.
______________3. Evaporation happens when water changes to gas when
it is heated.
______________4. Condensation is the process when a liquid matter turns
into solid.
______________5. A liquid turns into gas, when it is freezing.
______________6. Water can be a solid, liquid and gas.
______________7. Water becomes solid when it is being heated.
______________8. Freezing is an example of physical change in matter.

The crossword puzzle below can be completed by following the clues given
below. The 'Down' clues are for the vertical words in the puzzle and the 'Across'
clues are for the horizontal words in the puzzle. All the clues have to do with
changes of state of materials, and the first letter of every word has been filled in
to help you.
Across:
1. The process of turning a gas into a liquid is called _____. (12 letters)
6. The particles of a _____ are close together but they can flow and slide over
each other. (6 letters)
8. The boiling point of a liquid is the temperature at which that liquid will start to
_____. (4 letters)
10. The solid state of water is called _____. (3 letters)
12. Freezing and melting are the _____ of each other. (7 letters) 13. _____ water
turns it into ice. (8 letters)
