Changing Liquid to Solid, Liquid to Gas and

MODULE 4 Gas to Solid
Introduction:
Did you know that matter can change its forms into another?
What do you think will happen if a liquid object is placed under the heat? What
would happen next? What if we put a liquid object inside the refrigerator? An
object can undergo different kinds of changes and these changes may be
physical or chemical changes. In this lesson you will know how a liquid object
turns into a solid object and how will a liquid object turn into gas? Let’s find out!
Objectives:
Learners should be able to:
1. Describe the changes in materials based on the effect of temperature (Liquid
to Solid, Liquid to Gas & Gas to Liquid).
Vocabulary Words:
Physical change- is a change in the physical appearance of an object without

any change in its composition.
Chemical change- happens when a material changes in composition.
Temperature- is the hotness or coldness of an object.
Evaporation- is a physical change from liquid to gas.
Condensation- is a physical change from gas to liquid.
Freezing- is the change of liquid matter to a solid matter.
We can change a solid into a liquid or gas by changing its temperature. This is
known as changing its state. Water is a liquid at room temperature, but becomes
a solid (called ice) if it is cooled down. The same water turns into a gas (called
water vapor) if it is heated up.
Another example of physical change is evaporation.
Freezing is the physical change of liquid matter to solid. Freezing is the process of
changing a liquid object into a solid object.
For Example:
When you put a water inside your refrigerator, the water that

becoming ice is an example of the freezing process. Water is a liquid which turns
into ice which is a solid.
Evaporation is the physical change of liquid matter to gas. Through evaporation,

water changes to gas when it is heated.
For Example:
In your house, when your mother boils water in the
casserole. The steam is release when the water is boiling
inside the casserole.
Condensation is the physical change of gas to a liquid matter. Gas changes to

liquid when it is cooled.
For Example:
When you put cold water in the drinking glass. When
warm air hits the cold surface of the glass it is cooled and
changes to water droplets. Condensation produces
water droplets outside a glass of cold water.

Activity 2: Read and Follow the instructions carefully.

Materials Needed for the Experiment:
>beaker or transparent drinking glass
>water
> marker
>heat of the sun
1. Put the water in the beaker or in the transparent drinking glass.

2. Mark the level of water by using the marker and record it.
3. After putting a mark on the level of water in the beaker/transparent drinking
glass, let it stand outside under the heat of the sun for 30 minutes.
4. Observe what will happen to the water.
5. After 30 minutes, mark again the level of water and record the second mark
you made.
After you finish the experiment, answer the following question.
