A function block diagram of FXD Control is shown as Figure 1. In
general, there are several main modules, including Micro-
Processor CPU, Switchgear Reaction Interface, Power Supply,
Battery Management, I/O, Communications and User Interface.
About some key protective sensing, FXD treats them in reliable
ways. Current sensing is provided by three current transformers
located in upper apparatus and interfaced to FXD control via the
control cable. This cable also supplies Trip/Open, Close signal and
feedbacks Apparatus status. Voltages Sensing are connected to
the analog inputs module which located on Mainboard.

4. Protection Features
This section introduces FXD control protection features. FXD
control is a product that covers many kinds of protection functions.
Following are the function modules:
• Overcurrent protection (Phase, Ground, Negative Sequence)
• Cold load pickup protection
• Voltage protection
• Frequency protection
• Sensitive Earth Fault Protection
• Directional protection
• Low set Protection
Protective Elements Block diagram - ANSI Designations:
Sequence Coordination
When several s are connected in series to protect distribution
systems, FXD contains Sequence Coordination feature which can
prevent the simultaneous trip operations in both of Back-up and
Down-lines due to phase/ground fault. Sequence Coordination
feature is activated only if one out of several Down-lines
connected to one Back-up detects a fault current.
4.5. Sensitive Earth Fault (SEF) elements Sensitive Earth Fault feature requires eight settings once it is
enabled:
The Sensitive Earth Fault (SEF) feature is used on 3-wire systems
• SEF Enable/Disable
that require lower, independent minimum trip values than normal
ground sensing 4-wire systems. • SEF Minimum Trip Current
• SEF Time Delay
Sensitive Earth Fault (SEF) allows the FXD control to detect and
authorize the to trip after a selectable, definite time for ground • SEF Reclose Intervals
currents above the SEF minimum trip setting. Sensitive Earth Fault • Number of Operations-to-Lockout
has programmable lockout settings and Reclose Intervals. Like all • SEF Direction Type

independently selectable for each protection profile. • SEF Maximum Torque Angle

conditions are met: Note: When the ground trip and SEF enabled both, the Sensitive

• The number of reclosing attempts is less than the Operations to
Lockout setting.
SEF of Operations-to-Lockout
The range of SEF number of operations-to-lockout is 1-4.
Directional SEF
The directional element includes three parameters: Direction Type
• No Supervision/Direction Forward/Direction Reverse: No No supervision, Direction Forward, Direction Reverse.
Supervision means direction is not enabled. Forward Supervision
means SEF effective in forward region. Forward Supervision is
opposite to Forward Supervision. Max Torque Angle
• Maximum Torque Angle: This is the angle between the negative This is the angle between the zero sequence voltage and zero
sequence voltage and negative sequence current where the sequence current where the control is most sensitive.
control is most sensitive.
• Torque Angle Width: This defines the region of the direction. For Torque Angle Width
example, if define Maximum Torque Angle is 60 degrees, the
Torque Angle Width is 30 degrees. The minimum angle is 60-30 Angle width of torque angle about zero to allow tripping.
= 30 degree. The maximum angle is 60+30 = 90 degree. So, the
effective region is 30~90 degree for Direction Forward. And
210~270 degree for Direction Reverse.
4.6. Cold Load Pickup (CLPU) CLPU Minimum Trip for Phase
Cold Load Pickup (CLPU) is used to prevent inadvertent trips from The CLPU Minimum Trip setting defines the Amperes at which

Just as the OverCurrent protection functions for TCC1 and TCC2,
CLPU allows you to modify minimum trip settings and the 54 TCC

The control is equipped with an 8 Ah 24VDC lead acid battery for
backup control operation when primary AC power supply is absent.
This battery can support up to 72 hours on standby mode. If the
primary power supply is absent, the control will be shut down
when the voltage of the battery is under 21.5V. When control runs
under battery, the battery indicator on HMI is illuminated. Battery
can also be used for short-time commissioning or testing when
primary power supply is unavailable
