Chapter 1

THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTING

Distance Learning also known as distance education, e-learning, and online learning is a

form of education which the main elements include the physical separation between teachers and

students during instruction, as well as the use of various technologies to enhance student-teacher

and teacher-student contact, are key features of this types of education.

At this time of pandemic when Covid19 strike, it created a huge impact in our society, many

adjustments were created including the limitation of going outside of each other’s home, business

establishments were limited to cater many people, the wearing of facemasks and face shields,

schools were closed and prevented students to attend face to face classes.

The Government together with the Department of Education made the distance learning as

a top option for the country’s education system to continue. Schools have changed to a remote

learning system in which students can study at their own speed by getting a modular learning

materials, or attending online learning. Students especially in senior high school suddenly had to

work with various kinds of support, staying connected with their teachers and classmates via video

conferences, email and other digital tools.

This unexpected change in teaching format has forced students to adapt new ways

of learning under the conditions of the health crisis, potentially affecting their academic

development. As the said implementation takes place it created a huge impact to the

students it affects their emotional, mental and social health (i.e. depression, anxiety, and

stress), other students are not capable to provide online learning material such as cellular

phones, data connection. This world need student who make their school life useful,

productive, and effective for the future. Just like Jose Rizal said, “Youth is the Hope of Our

Future”. With all the aforementioned ideas, the researchers find the importance to identify
the Impact of the Implementation of Distance Learning on the Academic Performance of

grade 12 students.
