CAE's Future Role at ASML

Fred Huizinga outlined his vision for the future role of computational analysis and engineering (CAE) at ASML. He sees CAE playing a more central role in development by increasing efficiency, quality, and reliability while reducing costs. Examples were given of using simulations to analyze cable slab behavior under acceleration and fatigue of laser welded cooling channels. Key challenges include changing mindsets towards early and extensive simulation use, standardized processes, verification and validation, simulation data management, and competency organization.

Challenges:
• How to increase the efficiency of development?
“Do more with existing staff and in less time”
• How to increase the quality and reliability of our design?
“right-first-time”
• How to reduce cost?
“less protos, less physical (hardware) testing”
Verification by physical testing is getting more difficult, not feasible
or even not possible.
