Beam Penetration Method: Phosphor
Beam Penetration Method: Phosphor
Matric:S02/CTE/2016/1092
Write and discuss the two method of Colour CRT monitor Display methods.
There are mainly two techniques for this. One is simple but less effective, Beam Penetration
Method. Another is a little bit complicated but more effective, Shadow Mask Method.
We coat two layers of phosphor red and green from inside the CRT screen. Then the color at
any specific point depends on the speed of the electron beam. Three cases are possible:
Firstly, A slow electron beam will strike only the red layer. And it will produce red
color at that point.
Secondly, A fast electron beam will strike only the green layer and it will produce
green color at that point.
Lastly, An electron beam with intermediate speed can produce an orange and
yellow color.
Some important points to understand its working:
Now we move to the next method. Then understand the working of color CRT.
Shadow Mask Method
Construction
A shadow mask CRT has three phosphor color dots at each pixel position. While one phosphor
dot emits red light, the second dot emits green color, and the third one emits blue color. We use
three electron guns. Then we place a shadow mask grid just behind the phosphor-coated
screen.
Delta-Delta method
Inline method
Delta-Delta method
In this method, three electron guns and corresponding red-blue-green color dots on the screen
are arranged in a triangular fashion. Hence, the arrangement is a little bit complicated to
implement.
Inline Method
In this method, we align three electron guns and corresponding red-blue-green color dots on the
screen along one scan line. This inline arrangement is easier to implement. Therefore, we
commonly use it in High-resolution Color CRT monitors.
Working
Shadow mask contains a series of holes. Three electron beams are deflected and focused onto
the shadow mask.So that the electron beam can activate only its corresponding color dot. When
it passes through the shadow mask.
