Solving Quadratic Equation by Using Quadratic Formula DLP

The key points are: 1. The lesson introduces the quadratic formula: x = (-b ±√(b2 - 4ac))/2a and teaches students how to identify the a, b, and c values of a quadratic equation and substitute them into the formula. 2. Examples are worked through step-by-step to show how to solve quadratic equations like x2 = 3x + 4 by applying the quadratic formula. 3. Students participate through examples worked on the board and checking their understanding of using the quadratic formula to solve quadratic equations.

III. Procedure

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preparatory Activities
1.Prayer

-Class let us all stand and feel the

presence of the lord
- In the name of the Father, of Son, of
Please lead the prayer
the Holy Spirit, Lord thank you for
today for taking care of us. Bless
us all Lord every day in Jesus
name. Amen.

2.Greetings
-Good morning class!
- “Good morning Ma’am!”
Before you take your seats, kindly pick up
the pieces of paper on the floor and
arrange your chairs properly. (Students Obliged and take their seats)

3. Checking of attendance
- None ma’am
Secretary, who is absent for today?
4. Checking of Assignment

We have assignment, right? Kindly get - Yes, Ma’am

your notebook and exchange to your
seatmates
(Learners do as what teacher said)

B. Preliminary Activities

1. Review

What is our previous lesson/topic?

(students raised their hands)

- Last meeting, we discussed solving

quadratic equation by completing
Very Good! the square

Now I call 2 students and I want you to

recite the 3 methods of quadratic equation and
their uses
(students raised their hands)

- Ma’am first is extracting the

square root we use this method if
the linear term is missing second is
factoring if the equation is
factorable and lastly, completing
the square we need make the
equation perfect square trinomial
and make it square of binomial.
Very well said

C. Developmental Activities

1. Drill

kay! So, in this game I’ll give you

some questions that are answerable by
YES or NO. if your answer is YES
then you need to stand up and - No, Ma’am
answering No, means sit down.

D. Lesson Proper

1. Presentation

Did you know that there is formula for us

to solve quadratic equation?
Do you want to know?

That is our topic for today “solving

quadratic equation by using the quadratic
formula”

2. Discussion

The solution of any quadratic equation

ax2 + bx + c = 0, can be determine the
−b ± √ b2−4 ac
quadratic formula x= ,a
2a
≠ 0.This formula can be derived by
applying the method of completing the
square

ax2 + bx + c = 0→ ax2 + bx + = -c

(Students listen attentively)
The solutions to a quadratic equation of
the form ax2 + bx + c = 0, where are given
by the formula:

−b ± √ b2−4 ac
x=
2a

Here are some steps to solve quadratic

using the quadratic formulas

Step 1: Write the quadratic equation in

standard form identify the a, b, c values

Step 2: Write the quadratic formula then

substitute the values of a, b, c.

Step 3: Simplify the fraction, and solve

for x

Step 4: Check the solution

3. Guide Practice

Let us find the roots of the equation

4. Fixing skills

Class do you have a question?

- Quadratic formula is
Who wants to volunteer to answer the
−b ± √ b −4 ac

following on the board and you must explain x=
2a
your answers.

(teacher call students who raising their hands)

- The formula can be derived by
1. x 2−6 x=−5
applying completing the square

okay thank you very good!

So that was excellent, I assume that all of you

understand the method of quadratic formula by
solving quadratic equation

5. Generalization

Do you have a question class?

Let us recall the topic

What formula are we used in our

topic?

- Yes, Ma’am

Okay very good answer!

Where do we get the quadratic
formula?

Very Good!

6. Application

In this activity entitled “PICK ME”, I will

give envelope, it contains our needs when
there is disaster or even in our daily
living. The envelope represents the
equation and the daily needs represents
the answer to the quadratic equation. Then
if you get the correct answer you will get
points for it.

In this activity, you will be working in

groups, I grouped you into 3 groups. The
groups who will get the correct answer
will be given 20 points, if your group
didn’t get the correct answer will be given
10 points.

I will give you 10 minutes to answer that

activity, then choose 2 representatives
from each group to explain your work in
front. Is it clear?

IV- Evaluation
