6. Based on their positions in the periodic table, predict which has the largest first
ionization energy: Mg, Ba, B, O, Te. Explain

Oxygen has the largest first ionization energy since the first ionization energy increases
as we go from left to right of the periodic table and decreases as we go down a column.

7. Based on their positions in the periodic table, list the following ions in order of increasing
radius: K+, Ca2+, Al3+, Si4+. Explain

Increasing radius: Si4+, Al3+, Ca2+, K+

Explanation:
Aluminum and Silicon are in the third row in the table of elements. While the Potassium
and Calcium are in the fourth row. Since the radius increases from top to bottom and right to left,
the Silicon has the lower radius than Aluminum, and the Calcium has the lower radius than
Potassium but higher than Aluminum and Silicon.

8. From their positions in the periodic table, arrange the atoms in each of the following series
in order of increasing electronegativity:
(a) As, H, N, P, Sb
(b) Cl, H, P, S, Si
(c) Br, Cl, Ge, H, Sr
(d) Ca, H, K, N, Si
(e) Cl, Cs, Ge, H, Sr
9. Identify the more polar bond in each of the following pairs of bonds:
(a) HF or HCl - HCI
(b) NO or CO - CO
(c) SH or OH - OH
(d) PCl or SCl - PCl
(e) CH or NH - NH
