BBA Assignment 1 (DMT)

This document contains 10 questions for a BBA assignment on decision making techniques. The questions cover topics such as incomplete frequency distributions, types of data, measures of dispersion, calculating median, mean, standard deviation, and correlation from given data. Questions also involve determining regression lines and coefficients from bivariate data sets. Students are asked to calculate values, differentiate concepts, and describe characteristics for full credit.

BBA (2ND Semester) Decision Making Techniques [Assignment-1]

Note: Attempt all 10 questions. Each question carries equal marks. [10 × 5 = 50 Marks]

Q.1. An incomplete frequency distribution is given as follows:

Variable: 0-10 10-20 20-30 30-40 40-50 50-60 60-70 Total

Freq.: 10 10 ? ? ? 6 4 230

Given that the median value is 33.5 and mode is 34, determine the missing frequencies.

Q.2. (a) Differentiate between primary and secondary data.

(B) Differentiate between Bar graph and Histogram.

Q.3. Describe the characteristics of good measure of dispersion. Comment on the best measure of
dispersion and also write its merits and demerits.

Q.4. Calculate median, mean deviation about median from the following data:

Marks: 0-10 10-20 20-30 30-40 40-50 50-60 60-70

No. of Students: 6 5 8 15 7 6 3

Q.5. Calculate mean and standard deviation for the following table giving the age distribution of 542
members:

Age: 20-30 30-40 40-50 50-60 60-70 70-80 80-90

No. of Students: 3 61 132 153 140 51 2

Q.6. Calculate correlation coeff for the table given below:

Heights of Father(inches): 65 66 67 67 68 69 70 72

Heights of Son(inches): 67 68 65 68 72 72 61 71

Q.7. Calculate rank coeff of correlation between advertisement cost and sales from the following
data:

Advertisement Cost 39 65 62 90 82 75 25 98 36 78
(‘000Rs): 47 53 58 86 62 68 60 91 51 84
Sales (Lakhs):

Q.8. (a) Correlation is not a causation. Comment.

(b) Differentiate between Correlation and Regression.

Q.9. Two regression lines are given as:

4x - 5y + 33 = 0 and 20x – 9y – 107 = 0

And variance of X = 9, find

(1) Mean values of X, Y

(2) byx and bxy
(3) Coeff. of determination
(4) Standard deviation of Y.

Q.10. Given the following values of X and Y,

X:
12 18 32 18 25 24 25 40 38 22
Y: 16 15 28 16 24 22 28 36 34 19

Find regression lines X on Y and Y on X. Also estimate X, when Y = 40 and estimate Y when X is 42.
