Assignment submission format

Each student has to submit their assignment as guided in the assignment brief. The students
are guided what sort of information is to produce to meet the criteria targeted. You are
requiredto make use of headings, paragraphs and subsections as appropriate, and all work must
besupported with research and referenced using the HarvardReferencing System.

Important:

 Read the plagiarism notice and requirements at Page 5

 Word-limit- 8000 words (excludes cover page, table of content, figures, graphs,
reference list, appendix, and logbook)
 Accepted Sources: Research Papers (Journal Articles, Conference Proceedings,
Thesis), Textbooks, Governmental Data, Websites (only a registered organization, an
educational institution, government agency)
 Information taken from unreliable sources will not be accepted
 Must follow Harvard Reference Style

Learning outcomes covered

 LO1. Use an appropriate design tool to design a relational database system for a
substantial problem.
 LO2. Develop a fully functional relational database system, based on an existing
system design.
 LO3. Test the system against user and system requirements.
 LO4. Produce technical and user documentation.

Scenario
Toyota Company is an Auto Mobile Company is establishing its head office in capital city of
Nepal and five more branches in other part of the country. They are seeking for database
developer who can maintain and manage database. Your primary job is to create database
schema, blueprint of database and their relationship among entities.
You should be able to enter customer data, employee data and auto mobile data along with
necessary fields. You should be able to inter-relate at least four tables. Your system should
provide Web GUI or desktop interface to enterdata/export and you must validate those things.
Report shall be generated as per the company requirement (date wise, maximum, minimum,
count, sum). You can choose your own platform for database design and web GUI. You must use
three tier architecture for this.
You need to demonstrate the following skills and understanding.
• Use an appropriate design tool to design a relational database system for a substantial
• Develop a fully functional relational database system, based on an existing system
• Test the system against user and system requirements.
• Produce technical and user documentation

Assignme

nt Task
Based on the context above, complete the followings.

Part 1

2
Produce a Report
 Clear statements of user and system requirements.
 The design of the relational database system using appropriate design tools and
techniques. It should contain at least four interrelated tables.
 You may produce a comprehensive design for a fully functional system which includes
interface and output designs, data validations and data normalisation.
 You can also evaluate the effectiveness of the design in relation to user and system
requirements.

Part 2
Once the designisaccepted, you have to:
 Develop a fully functional database system using evidence of user interface, output and
data validations and querying across multiple tables. You may include system security
and database maintenance features.
 Implement a query language into the relational database system and assess whether
meaningful data has been extracted through the use of query tools to produce appropriate
management information.
 Once the system has been developed, you will test the system. You have to test the
system against user and system requirements.
 Produce a brief report
o Assessing the effectiveness of the testing, including an explanation of the choice
of test data used.
o Evaluating the effectiveness of the database solution in relation to user and system
requirements and suggest improvements.
Part 3
 Produce a technical and user documentation for a fully functional system, including
diagrams showing movement of data through the system, and flowcharts describing how
the system works.
 Evaluate the database in terms of improvements needed to ensure the continued
effectiveness of the system.
