About the Katniss Poncho………………………………………………………………..


The Katniss Poncho was inspired by the cowl that Katniss Everdeen was wearing in the great movie: The
Hunger Games. The poncho with an easy-to-memorize cable pattern is worked in one piece and due to the
bulky yarn it can be knit in very short time.

SIZES
One size that fits adults with bust of approx. 80cm – 110cm/ 32” – 43”.
Size of the model: 34”.
Finished measurements before sewing:
Length: 120cm / 47”, width: 50cm /20”
MATERIALS
 Yarn
300g (10.6 oz) of bulky weight yarn that gives the correct gauge. Sample used 6 skeins of Lana Grossa
McWool Fashion, 50g (1.76 oz ) /80m (88yds), 50% Wool, 50% Acrylic. Colorway: 103.
Note: Your yarn needs can vary if you use yarns that have different fiber content, than the above
mentioned.
 Needles
7mm/ US 60cm/24” circular needles. Adjust needle sizes if necessary to get correct gauge!
 Other
One darning needle for sewing and for weaving in all ends.
GAUGE
12 sts x 16 rows = 10cm/ 4” in cable pattern, after blocking.
Take time to make swatch that you wash and block to achieve correct gauge!
KNITTING TECHNIQUES & STITCH GUIDE

 Cable pattern:
Row 1 (RS): *P2, LT* to last 2 sts, P2.
Row 2 (WS): *K2, P2* to last 2 sts, K2.

 Left Twist (LT):


Insert your right needle into the second stitch on your left needle through the back loop and knit
the stitch without dropping it from the needle.
Then bring your right needle to the front of your work and insert your needle into the first stitch.
Knit that stitch as you normally would.
Finally slip both the first and second stitches off the left needle together.

Katniss Poncho
The poncho is knitted in one piece and then the sides
are sewn together.

INSTRUCTIONS
Cast on 62 sts with your preferred cast on style. For
the sample long tail cast on over 2 needles was
used…see details under Knitting Techniques, page 2.

Work Cable pattern 96 times.*

Finishing
Break yarn by leaving a long tail (approx. 80cm/32”)
for sewing. Block the piece to final measurements
that are given in the pattern (page 2: Sizes)
Lay the rectangle facing its wrong side and fold and
sew the short side to the edge of the long side as seen
in the diagram below.
Weave in all ends. Enjoy!
