Activity 1

The document is a college course activity assignment that asks the student to answer questions about biochemistry. In response to the first question, the student provides a 3 sentence summary of biochemistry as the scientific study of chemical reactions and materials inside living things, including proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, and nucleic acids, and how these molecules are created, broken down, and controlled to maintain homeostasis. The second question asks about the origin of life, to which the student responds that some theories propose life originated from simple organic compounds like amino acids and nucleotides forming on the early Earth through natural phenomena and evolving over time into early living things. The third question involves completing a diagram.

ACTIVITY 1
Intro to Biochem

Answer the following questions comprehensively:

1. What is your own understanding of Biochemistry?

The scientific study of chemical reactions and materials that take place inside of living things is
known as biochemistry. It aims to comprehend the chemistry of life, including the composition
and operation of biomolecules including proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, and nucleic acids. The
creation and breakdown of these molecules, as well as how they are controlled to preserve the
body's homeostasis, are also examined in biochemistry. In order to investigate the complex
chemical processes that underlie life, the multidisciplinary science of biochemistry integrates
ideas from chemistry, biology, physics, and other relevant disciplines. It is essential to a wide
number of scientific fields, including biotechnology, genetics, medicine, and pharmacology.

2. What is your own idea about the origin of life? Explain further.

It is claimed that a sequence of chemical processes created life from non-living stuff. Simple
organic compounds, such as amino acids and nucleotides, are thought to have originated on the
early Earth as a result of a collision of natural phenomena, including lightning, volcanic activity,
and UV radiation. These organic molecules developed into increasingly intricate forms
throughout time, eventually giving rise to the earliest living things. In certain ideas, people are
formed of many substances including carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen, phosphorus, and
sulfur, and that living things are made up of hundreds of distinct substances of organic and
inorganic molecular types. From organelle, cells as the basic unit of life,, tissues, organs, organ
systems, organisms, populations, communities, ecosystem, and biosphere.
